If theTwitterverse is to be believed, Obsidian — currently working on Sega’sAlpha Protocol— is currently developing a new, “non-sequel” toFallout 3title for Bethesda Softworks. The game, entitledFallout: New Vegas, is slated to hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2010. Little details are known about the game, save for that it will retain the gameplay style of last year’s award-winningFallout 3. The info comes from Bethesda’s press event, which is currently taking place in London....

I almost didn’t post this stuff, but I was inspired by Jordan’s post aboutPaper Mario 3D. He’s so excited about the game. It made me think that some of you may have be equally excited aboutStar For 64 3DandMario Kart 3D. Thing is, other than some clearly improved texture work on Star For 64 3D, neither of these games look that impressive. Without the 3D effect, they’re justStar Fox 64andMario Kart… again....

With Thanksgiving this week, the PlayStation Network releases had to be moved up to Tuesday. We’re getting two games,Revenge of the Wounded DragonsandGravity Crash, both of which are $9.99. As cool as the name sounds,RotWDlooks off. For reference, thePlayStation Bloghas video of the straight-up arcade-style beat-’em-up. Who knows, there’s always the possibility it handles a heck of a lot better than it looks over the Internet. The neon aesthetic ofGravity Crashis much less taxing on the eyes....

There was this extensive list of “PC games everyone should play” floating around the Internet a while back, and if I remember correctly,Outcastwas on it. I’m fairly sureMaster of Orionwas also on this list, now that I think about it. Both titles recently got the Good Old Games treatment and are being offered DRM-free for $5.99 each on the digital download service. I could ramble on and on about how I spent summers playing theMaster of Orionseries, but that’d be a dirty lie....

You aresonot ready for this. A new piece of medical equipment is being tested right now called thePedisedate. Basically, it is a headset that is placed on a child before they are admitted to surgery. The device connects to a Game Boy or portable CD player (yup, not a Nintendo DS or iPod — apparently the Pedisedate also transports you to 1996) and a snorkel-like piece swings forward and is placed over the child’s nose....

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a game in theChoplifterseries, about seven years if my calculations are correct, with the PlayStation 2 titleChoplifter: Crisis Shield. So you’re forgiven if you thought the classic series — which made its debut in 1982 for the Apple II — fell off the map. Well it’s back, thanks to developer inXile and its upcoming downloadable title,Choplifter HD. This updated take on the classic sticks closely to the original formula: a side-scrolling game that has you completing rescue missions in a combat helicopter....

I have to hand it to theNeed For Speed SHIFTmarketing team. All oftheir trailersfor the game so far have been about the cars and nothing else. The only sounds you hear are the roar of the engines and the sound of metal on metal when cars collide into each other. There’s no bullsh*t pop music, no weird camera angles — these trailers are about the racing experience. I playedNeed for Speed SHIFTa while back and it was a real enjoyable experience despite the fact that I don’t like simulation racing games....

So youpre-loaded theLeft 4 Dead 2demoearly in order to play the game as soon as possible. Then you played theLeft 4 Dead 2demo to death. Peoplestarted calling dibson characters. Things are moving forward. But what do you do now? What isthe next step? Why it’spre-loading the full game, of course. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, is a game that acts as a pseudo-sequel to the originalOperation Flashpointback from 2001. While the studios are different, and the team behind it has a slightly different focus, the overall goal remains the same, to make the most realistic FPS on the market. I had a chance to check out the multiplayer component of the game earlier this week, and get some real hands-on time....

Hold on to your butts. Ubisoft are releasing Macintosh versions ofPrince of PersiaandShaun White Snowboardingthis March. Yeah, you read me — the two highest rated games of the year* are coming to the Macintosh. This March. The ports have been made possible thanks to developer TransGaming that — much to my dismay — have nothing to do with Optimus Prime or Starscream. I tried to reach TransGaming for comment about their name’s proximity to my youthful obsession, but my hand got tired right before I started typing....

Falling under the free-to-play, ad-supported business model,Quake Liveis about as terrific as you could have hoped for. While it’s essentially justQuake III Arenain your browser, that’s more than enough to satisfy me and I’m sure many of you too.
