Metal Gear Solid 3D to have elements of MGS4 and MGS:PW

There are a a lot of incredible 3DS games on the horizon (Super Mario,Luigi’s Mansion 2, andhopefullyMega Man Legends 3to name a few), but not many of them offer the same guarantee of quality asMetal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D(scheduled for release this November). It’s easily my favorite game in the series, for its humor, its drama, and perhaps most of all, its genuine focus on survival. Instead of utilizing the healing factor system that’s sneaked it’s way into so many games of late (includingMetal Gear Solid: Peace Walker),Snake Eaterrequires you to work at staying healthy....

Monolith reveals pulled F.E.A.R. 2 end credits footage

Monolith was afraid the video below the fold would take the edge offF.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin’svile conclusion. The studio was right. Watching SnakeFist twist, waltz, punch, pantomime and whirl around a variety of the game’s environments probably would have killed the emotion of the “Wait … Oh, Jesus” moment. According to Monolith’s Dan Affleck, the video was supposed to be aired during the end credits of the game. So sure the comical video would make the cut, the scenes were even motion captured....

More detail from Square president, no more non-mainstream games allowed

So you enjoyedThe World Ends With You? Too bad. You won’t be seeing anything remotely like it from Square-Enix anytime soon, according to company president Yoichi Wada, who recently issued an ultimatum to his staff: if any games are made that don’t fit into the mainstream’s circle of interest, job cuts will follow. So long, unique concepts that break the mold! This was supposedly part of a heated business meeting in which Square discussed the results of their2007 fiscal year, which were none too sunny, showing general profits down 20 percent and taking the worst of it in overseas sales....

NES games on 3DS will feature multiplayer upgrade

When all the buzz about the 3DS price drop died down yesterday I kind of got excited about the upcoming NES and GBA games coming to the eShop. With all the rage posts I saw yesterday, I may be alone in that. But, if I’m not, perhaps you’d like to get down with some 2-player action in these NES games, as it seems that’s going to be one of the upgraded features of these releases....

New information on Banjo-Kazooie 3 to (finally!) be revealed early next week

It has been confirmed that Rare will finally be revealing assets for its highly anticipated (at least by me) gameBanjo-Kazooie 3, an Xbox 360 exclusive, at Microsoft’s media summit next week in San Francisco. There’s no word on exactly what will be shown, but any new info is good info, right? I am one of the biggestBanjo-Kazooiefans on the planet and will be waiting with bated breath (while stroking my Clanker doll) for the assets to drop at exactly 8:00 AM PST this coming Tuesday (5/13)....

New Onechanbara coming to 360, stars vampire sisters

D3 Publisher has a brand newOnechanbaragame in the works, and it’ll be ditching series heroine Aya for a pair of vampire sisters, Kagura and Saaya. I doubt many people will notice the difference, since anime children with massive breasts all tend to look the same. Onechanbara Z: Kagurais the name of the game, and Famitsu says it will feature plenty of blood, which isn’t exactly a radical departure for the series....

New Star Trek Online screens show city and ship

Cryptic recently revealed two new screenshots fromStar Trek Online. The screens have much to work with in terms of analysis. The space shot gives a basic sense of scale. Either those space buildings are absolutely massive or Cryptic is going for an RTS feel. The hull picture shows a lot of metal. Also, fire. I know it’s early, but I’m craving substantial information. I’m not asking for a clown car shot that reveals everything there is to know....

NIER gets North American release date, exclusive spelling

In Japan it’s calledNieR. In North America, it’s calledNIER. Don’t ask me why, it just is. Everythingabout this gameis weird. Like the fact that we get one version of the game, but Japan gets two different versions, one starring a slightly younger incarnation of the game’s main hero. Bizarre game, and one we can enjoy on April 27. Yep, that’s the release date given to us by Square Enix, along with the clarification on the new way to spell it....

Nintendo 3DS uses DSi power cord

F*ck year. Well, I’m not reallythatexcited, but it’s still good news. Knowing that the Nintendo 3DS will use the Nintendo DSi or DSi XL power cord connector means that I have at least one more power adaptor available. You lose one? Who cares! You’ve got a backup. Well, you might not have a backup AC adapter if you sell that DSi to fund your 3DS. There’s other almost useless factoids on the 3DS from a recent roundup byGoNintendo:...

Nintendo eats the Big Mushroom, nearly doubles revenue

It’s no secret that Nintendo has grown like crazy. Maybe that was the inspiration for the Big Mushroom power-up in their recent games. Thanks to the popularity of the DS Lite, Wii, and several kick-ass first-party titles,Nintendo recorded record-breaking revenue growth of 89.8% over fiscal 2006.Research and Marketssays that Nintendo’s decision to make lower-priced game consoles has helped the demand and their company growth, and that the change of target demographic didn’t hurt much either....

No theoretical limit to PS3 firmware updates, but fans are a different story

Whenever you corral a couple of engineers together in a discussion, magic usually follows. Between all of the technical jargon that they weave in and out of conversations all nonchalantly, often comes enlightenment and amusement. Unlike the analysts that we poke at with a stick, engineers actually understand their subject matter — and are our only hope of unlocking a console’s great mysteries that are buried deep beneath their cool exteriors....

You should too, particularly because they’ve been seriously discussing video games more and more in the past few months. Yesterday’s episodeMorning Editionhada great series of interviews with people on both sides of theSix Days in Fallujahdrama, and, regardless of your position on the whole controversy, it makes for a very interesting listen....
