Despite someearly hiccups, Techland’sDead Islandseems to be a pleasant surprise for a great deal of people. Publisher Deep Silver is reporting that in just one week of sale, they have shipped more than one million copies of the tropical, open-world zombie-fest in the US; the game is expected to top two million globally by the end of this week. Mike Fischer, the president and CEO of the game’s North American distribution partner, Square Enix, was obviously pleased by these numbers....

That’s a lot of alliteration in that headline. Anyway, Tecmo Koei will be offeringDead or Alive Dimensionsplayers free dailyDLC costumes, which will be distributed via SpotPass. While not the most mindblowing of offerings, this scheme does show off the potential for downloadable content in 3DS games, and it’s pretty cool stuff. Tecmo plans to release 28 costumes, including one that can only be obtained on launch day. The launch costume will arrive at 10am on the March 24, with a new download available 9am every day — excluding Mondays — until April 24....

For the duration of this weekend, Treyarch will be offering double the normal amount of experience points for multiplayer inCall of Duty: Black Ops. The proverbial switch has been turned on; you can earn extra XP across all versions of the game until 8:00 AM PST on Monday. You should not, however, take that as a reason to stay up all weekend playingBlack Ops. Let me be the voice of reason here and suggest that such a thing is not a wise idea....

BioWare and FUNimation are collaborating to make an anime film based on the world ofDragon Age. The straight-to-DVD release will be worked on by Bioware’s Executive Producer Mark Darrah, Creative Director Mike Laidlaw, and FUNimation’s Fukunaga and Chris Moujaes. It’s set to appear some time in 2011 and will be the first project released under FUNimation’s “Original Entertainment” team. Whether it will be an adaptation of the game’s story or an all-original tale remains to be seen, although 2011 certainly places it in a prime position to hype any obligatory sequel that may be rearing its head....

Gearbox “first access” members are supposedly getting emails with the details, and it looks like a lavish production indeed. Here’s what the treasure trove of goodies is said to contain, alongside the game: Special editions are all the rage, and there’s no way 2K Games would have let such a highly anticipated game slip by without some material, money-grabbing fanfare....

Oh SH*T. We did not see this one coming (at least, not so soon). In the Sony press conference announcements, they dropped an incredible new piece of news:Final FantasyXIVis coming exclusively to PS3, we got to see footage, and it will have some sort of online connectivity. The trailer also showed off flying dragons. FLYING DRAGONS, PEOPLE! We don’t know much more than that yet, but I’ll bet we’ll be getting more details very soon....

You know, strange things go down at E3. Take the interview above for example. One moment our very own Jon Carnage is interviewing Ted Dibiase, the original Million Dollar Man, and the next he’s in a headlock. Even now the man is dangerous, and this only cements that fact that he should forever remain a heel in all of our eyes. A newCatherinetrailer now lets most of us understand what they are actually saying. It also ponders the eternal question of people who become adults before their boyfriends do: “Guys, y u no commit to relationships??” You don’t, because you want the freedom to play oddball Japanese games that ask the protagonist that exact question while letting you do crazy platforming at 3 AM on a weekday? And the deluxe edition comes with apillowcasewith an anime girl on it, you say?...

Here is theFar Cry 3footage that Ubisoft showed earlier at their press conference, but this time with some commentary here and there on what we’re looking at. There’s a lot of different types of action going on, with the ability to stealth-kill and drag bodies into cover, Rambo-ing into action and actually surviving, tons of scripted events, and shooting a pistol out of a helicopter. I’m terrible atFar Crygames, mostly because I tend to quit whenever I get shot through the brush from a mile away, but it does looks pretty good....
