Ugh. More “deals.” Half the sh*t I saw this weekend was not any kind of deal. It was mostly retailers and websites getting rid of crap that no one wanted to buy this year. I spotted a few gems ($1,100 58″ plasma TV anyone?), but most of the sales were on things that no one wants. Amazon is not exempt. They were dealing crap along with the rest of them, but at least theirlightning deals for Cyber Mondayare looking somewhat respectable....

I must admit I have not had the pleasure of playingAngry Birds, but ifGoNintendo’s descriptionof the game is correct and it is indeed “likeBoom Bloxbut with birds and pigs” it is something I will be downloading onto my iPod Touch immediately, or perhaps I should wait until thenewly announcedDS, PSP and PS3 versions land. Decisions, decisions. Details are scarce on the handheld/console version of the game, so it isn’t clear if it will be updated with new features or whether it will simply be the same game....
Soon Australians will be able to get their hands on an, uh,epicXbox 360 bundle. Microsoft is releasing — while supplies last — the “Gears of War” bundle on June 4. The discounted collection will include Epic’s originalGears of War,Gears of War 2, an Xbox 360 Pro (60 GB hard drive), all the cords one can stand to jam behind their television stand, and a white controller. As you may see above, Microsoft spared no expense on the packaging....
Reassuring to hear, isn’t it? I was starting to think the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions ofBattlefield: Bad Company 2would be left in the dust in terms of post-launch support. As it turns out, console gamers are getting a patch next Tuesday that includes everythingfrom this PC updateplus these new tweaks: DICEsays these balanceswill be incorporated into a future patch forBad Company 2on PC. Good to know, definitely, but I’m just thrilled to see the console versions become slightly more up to date....
This year, EA’s long-runningMedal of Honorfranchise is being remade for the modern era. World War II is out; the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan is in. The series reboot, simply titledMedal of Honor, is due out this fall; EA Los Angeles is putting together the single-player campaign, whileBattlefielddeveloper EA DICE is working on the multiplayer component. In fact, the two portions of the game will be running ondifferent engines— a “heavily modified” version of the Unreal Engine for the campaign, and DICE’s Frostbite engine for the multiplayer....
In yet anotherMTVpiece aboutGears of War 2, Cliff Bleszinski revealed some of the film sequels he used as inspirations to the title. He citedStar Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,The Dark Knight, andAliensbecause of their ability to transcend the first movie with a decidedly “darker” tone. From the interview: [‘The Empire Strikes Back’] is the obvious one that everyone goes to, because it’s darker. ‘Dark Knight’ as well — doing what the first one did but also having a darker twist on it and going places the first one wouldn’t have had the ba–s to go and also doing everything on a larger scale....
While most people blame videogames and gamers for society’s ills, there is at least one person who finds time to commend the so-called “PlayStation generation.” That man is British Army Chief of the General Staff Sir Richard Dannatt who is impressed by the actions of those who grew up with games in Iraq. That just sounds weird to say. [All over the place now, we hear about how the RPG genre is stagnating; that fewer people want to play console RPGs anymore. Yet, that may not be entirely correct—the truth is, nobody wants to play thesameconsole RPG anymore. It’s generally recognized that, while most games continue to grow beyond the boundaries of genre, employing (or, just experimenting with) new technology and the maturation of a sophisticated audience, RPGs are still far from a perfect science....
Officially revealed this week,GoldenEye 007: Reloadedis Activision’s latest attempt at capturing gamers’ attention with the James Bond franchise. But can it deliver? Based on this reveal trailer and the first batch of screenshots, I’m not entirely sold. Granted, I’ve not seen or played a single second of the game for myself, so the verdict is still out. But if these first glimpses of the game are supposed to get me excited, I’m finding it hard to muster more than a shrug....
Konami has announced the release date of the final content expansion forCastlevania: Lords of Shadow. The “Resurrection” DLC continues the story of Gabriel Belmont following the events of the previous add-on, “Reverie,” and pits him up against a demon known as “The Forgotten One.” The content will be arriving on Xbox Live next week on June 7th, followed by a PlayStation Network release on June 14th. This might be the onlyCastlevaniagame released in the US that I haven’t played....
Presumably, a company wants to portray its videogames in the best possible light when showing them off in trailers, right? I mean, you wouldn’t release a trailer for a game where the player models clipped through each other and the footage chugged along at a measly fifteen frames per second, right?With that said, I don’t quite understand the above teaser for 2K Sports’Major League Baseball 2K9. Sure, they’ve got Tim Lincecum’s windup down pat, and the Mets’ brand-spanking-new ballpark, Citi Field, looks fantastic....
Besides what little we have learned from the slew of recentMass Effect 2trailers, we really don’t know all that much about the new characters beyond their appearance and general traits/abilities. Depending on if I end up hating or loving Thane and Grunt when this game finally hits, my answer could change, but as it stands I want this entire set of action figures minus Shepard. We know more about him than all these other characters, even Tali, but his facial region is giving off a weird vibe....
