Last night I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening of this year’sI Am 8-Bitart show in good ol’ Hollywood, California. For anyone not familiar with the show, I Am 8-Bit is a compilation of videogame themed art by a variety of artists. What’s most impressive about the show is that a lot of the artists aren’t even gamers. Once you see how detailed and meaningful some of the pieces are, it is hard to believe they were created by people that have never touched a videogame before....

I remember quite a few gamers lamenting Activision’s and Vivendi’s plans to merge when the news was announced back inearly December. Lowered quality across the board, along with developers forced to get new franchise installments out at least once a year — a concern that isn’tentirely unfounded— were the main concerns on people’s minds. For the Xbox 360’s first foray into the karaoke game genre,Lipswasn’t too bad a start. However, there was one huge problem — you didn’t have to sing at all to win the game, which more or less countered the game’s entire existence. Plagued by a “white noise” issue, the game only required you to blow into the microphone or rake it along your couch in order to score points.
