It’s rare for a sports game to have more than one cover athlete, but EA Sports is bucking the trend withGrand Slam Tennisfor the Wii, which will feature tennis greats Roger Federer, John McEnroe, and Serena Williams on its cover. Dark Scavenger, a sci-fi roleplaying game with turn-based combat has been announced today, and it looksbloodyweird. The screenshots involve luchador gorillas, monks with tennis rackets and six-eyed aliens playing ping pong. This sounds like it’s going to be an experience. The game boasts a “dynamic text-based encounter system,” which appears to blend JRPG elements with point and click gameplay, all presented in a text adventure format. The game features six hours of gameplay and a “deep, dark fantasy narrative,” alongside 100+ weapons to collect and multiple scenarios....

A few months ago, Empire Interactive went into administration following years of money problems, and it seems that the effects of the company’s fall havespread to Xbox Live. Two of the publishers XBLA games,Double DragonandSpinball 2: Brtual Deluxe, have gone missing, and it’s unknown if they’ll ever return. Zoo Games bought most of Empire’s property, but those titles missing from XBLA have presumably gone back to Million and The Bitmap Brothers....

It’s been quite some time since a game worthy of the nameSSXhit the market. The series had already been in a bit of a slump before the ghastlySSX Blur, a game poor enough EA didn’t even acknowledge it during their behind-closed-doors presentation as being in the current console generation despite releasing on the Wii. EA just sent word letting us know that they continue to hold an iron grip on the National Football League license. EA will continue to be the sole company that can produce any type of official NFL games up until the year 2013, marking the end of the 2012 season: Both agreements include all aspects of the interactive experience,including console and handheld games as well as console-based onlinefeatures. The agreements also provide EA access to both NFL Films andthe NFL Network to enrich its game experiences....
The Entertainment Software Association is using a new report by DFC intelligent to declare that in-game advertising will grow at a swift pace in order to reach the 72% of Americans now said to be playing. DFC says that companies spent over $1 billion on game-centric advertising (including promotional tie-ins and the like) in North America last year, and that investment figures could double by 2014. With motor companies, beverage producers and even the army getting in on in-game product placement, you may look forward to your favorite videogame characters following Nathan Drake into therealm of corporate whorism....
