The Xbox 360 Slim has enjoyed the biggest launch a revised console’s ever had in the UK, according to sales examiner Chart-Track. The smaller, sleeker Xbox 360 has trumped not only the PS3 Slim’s sales, but the PS2 Slim’s as well, which is pretty surprising stuff. “Microsoft’s new, improved, slimmer Xbox 360 console, the Xbox 360 250GB (or Xbox 360S) achieves the biggest launch in the UK for a ‘revised’ home console, surpassing the launches of both PS2 Slim and PS3 Slim and recording over two days around the same as the original Xbox 360’s launch sales total back in week 48 2005,” reveals Chart-Track boss Dorian Bloch....

Microsoft will be releasingtwo new colored controllersfor the Xbox 360 on September 30th. These limited edition wireless red and green controllers will come with rechargeable batteries plus the Play & Charge cable for $64.99. I’m all for new color schemes, but what’s so special about red and green? If you’re going to have a limited edition color, why have them look like an everyday color? If the controllers were gold, platinum or multi-colored, then sure, I could understand them being limited edition....

Ever needed to know why Zangief wears panties in battle or why Blanka smells bad? Apparently, there’s a book that might have answers to these questions. Capcom and UDON have partnered to create an illustrated tell all, a literal encyclopedia featuring “detailed profiles” for everyStreet Fightercharacter. It’s called “Street Fighter: World Warrior Encyclopedia,” and it’s hitting stores in late 2010. We’re not sure why Capcom or UDON decided to publish and illustrate a book based on characters not named Ken....

Aleaked Sega document tookthe Internet by storm yesterday with a number of amazing revelations, most notably the hint that Dreamcast and PS2 games could be heading to the PS3. Buried among all the juicy gossip and fanciful ideas were some pretty harsh criticisms ofAlpha Protocol, comparing the game unfavorably toMass Effectand claiming that the game is “barely RPG.” “We’re not really sure how much this gentleman played ofAlpha Protocol,or what his ideas of an RPG are,”retortsObsidian marketing manager Matthew Rorie....

With the North American release of the Nintendo DSi XL a mere days away, Nintendo of Japan’s announcement of the upcoming 3D handheld, the 3DS, was a bit curious. According to EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich, the timing couldn’t have been worse, but he’s not sure it’ll matter. “It is unfortunate for the Nintendo DSi XL,” he told me today, “new hardware announcements certainly impacts consumers’ willingness to purchase old hardware that may be “obsolete” in less than a year....
