QCF Design’s award-winningDesktop Dungeonswas a free, indie puzzle-roguelike thing I got madly (and secretly) addicted to, then bothered to tell none of you about. The original versionis still availablein all of its pixelated glory, and I urge you to try it. There’s much news to discuss, however. PC and Mac pre-ordersare openfor the new-and-improvedDesktop Dungeons, which is quite the step up visually from its freeware brethren.QCF also statesthat getting on Steam is the plan, and more versions — web, Android, and iPhone, to be exact — are on the horizon....

Dude, there’s not a week that goes by that I don’t sing theSuper Mario Landtheme song to myself. It’s like the level music of my life. I love that game! Now I can play it again, on my 3DS! Nintendo just confirmed that Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are coming to the Virtual Console.Super Mario Landwas the first confirmed title for the service. No prices were given, but I’m sure we’ll hear something closer to the March 27 release date of the 3DS in the US....

I guesslast week‘s debate was aSuper Smash Bros.battle on stock mode set for 82 lives each — truly a debate to thedeath. The result was not pretty, and reminiscent to those times when you were so drunk you could only lift your head high enough to see the stock score at the bottom of the screen plummet further each time your corpse fell off the map next to it. I had expected equally memorable drunken party moments to boostMario Party‘s overall score, but the series aspect of the debate really did it in for good....

Those lamenting the fact thatCatherineisnot confirmed for North Americahave been given a little beacon of hope today. According to US retailer GameStop, Atlus’ sexy horror game is coming to we Western devils on June 26. Of course, retailer listings are not definitive confirmations, but GameStop is often in the right ballpark when it comes to this type of thing, so it’s certainly a good sign. GameStop, for its part, has removed the listing, but not before the Internet noticed!...

Namco Bandai’s awesomely-namedMonster HunterripoffGod Eateris looking to do quite well, if the demo numbers are anything to go by. Despite having gone live less than two months ago, the ten-mission PSP demo has already been downloaded (and presumably played) a million times. As for the reasons why, I’ve got a few guesses: Plus, characters and gear from the demo can be exported into the main game, so it’s a great incentive to hook otherwise ambivalent players....

Good Old Games (GOG.com) has had to shut down for now. The site, which allowed players to download games that were old and good from a large variety of publishers (sometimes for free) was a great place to pick up some of the classics that you couldn’t find anywhere else. If you head over to their page you’ll find a slightly confusing message that states, “We have recently had to give serious thought to whether we could really keep GOG....

Grant Morrison, the author ofArkham Asylum,will be writingthe script forArea 51. While Morrison is a great writer, the film has still yet to get a director, so Paul W.S. Anderson or Uwe Boll could still hunt down Paramount and beg them for a directing role. According to the Variety article, Christine Peters will produce the film, who worked onHow to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I have great faith in Morrison’s writing, although there are two main problems with this....

Seed Studios — the developer of the title — has slowly relayed information and images to eager fans fromits development blog. Most recently, they released the three images in the gallery below. It looks like a console strategy game — that’s for sure....

At Sony’s gamescom press conference yesterday they talked a bit about how you will be able to get your social networking on with the PlayStation Vita. This sexy new portable will have dedicated Facebook, foursquare, Skype, and Twitter apps. We’re all anxiously awaiting your obligatoryfirst tweet from Vita. We know that these apps will come some time after system launch, though solid dates are still up in the air. They’ll hit PSN as free downloads....

One of the most popular events for Dtoiders to go to are those annualFinal Fantasyconcerts, or listen into the ever popularVideo Games Live, or even just watch arrangements of videogame tunes on Youtube. Something about the fresh arrangements of these songs we know and love bring waves of nostalgia and make for a good night out.
