Three songs from AFI are now available forGuitar Hero 5on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. The three songs are: “Beautiful Thieves” is from AFI’s latest album titled Crash Love, which is not out in stores yet. The track pack is going for 440 MS Points, 550 Wii Points and $5.49 real money points on the PS3. You can also purchase the songs for $2 each on all three platforms....
AMD and its arch rivals have been duking it in the field of CPU dominance for years. Back in the day, you could reel off a number like 1.8 or 2.2 GHz and proclaim your rig was “better” than your mate’s. Your white, male, middle-aged character just got done shooting down an enemy with a powerful gun. He mutters a classic one-liner, which, combined with his brown hair and stubble, makes the audio clip sound extra-badass. As the defeated enemy drops their ammunition, your manly character grabs it and lunges forward into the third-person environment, continuing his epic, cutscene-filled journey. OK, so itstilldoesn’t show much in the way of actual gameplay (it’s an intro movie, what did you expect?), but itdoesshow off more of a sushi bar, Vincent’s bedroom and underwear, beer cans, sheep, a clock, an apartment door peep-hole, and the (Japanese) voice cast, which includes Norio Wakamoto, a guy whose mere presence makes anything cooler. Also, the rap song was provided by a dude called “L-Vokal”, in case you care....
PS3 fanboys, start your engines! Crytek has admitted that, of the two console versions ofCrysis 2, the PlayStation 3 is getting a better deal. The graphics-intensiveCrysissequel is squeezing a bit more power from Sony’s machine, and while it’s doubtful that the naked eye will recognize much of a difference, you can be sure that PS3 fans are rejoicing in the streets over this victory. “We haven’t found it more difficult to develop for PS3,” explains Crytek’s Carl Jones....

While the number of jobs in the United States has been shrinking for most of the year,information releasedin Game Developer Research’s 3rd annualGame Developer Censusshows that the development end of the North American games industry is bucking the trend. In both the US and Canada, the number of jobs with game developers and publishers has increased. The United States experienced a growth of around four hundred jobs. Nothing to get excited over, especially when the report attributes the growth to new studios opening up in response to the many closures we experienced this year....

Sure, the combat looks kind of fun, and riding on a flying enemy while you stab its back is pretty cool. But I can’t help wondering if the player might have taken down that griffin much faster if his AI companions would shut their trap for one goddamn second....
