AMD breaks world record with 8.429 GHz chip

AMD and its arch rivals have been duking it in the field of CPU dominance for years. Back in the day, you could reel off a number like 1.8 or 2.2 GHz and proclaim your rig was “better” than your mate’s. With the invention of dual core and then quad-core processors, just getting a “faster” processor didn’t seem to be that important. That being said, I was really interested to see this attempt by AMD to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest frequency for a CPU, using one of the new FX processors....

BlizzCon 2010 summed up in a single video

Originally, I wasn’t even going to post this video. It was too obvious a move. After much internal debate — and after watching it far more than any sane person ever should — I finally decided that I might as well channel my obsessive energy into a post. I figured someone out there would getsomethingout of this silly thing. The pacing is impeccable. Not only in the phrasing of the question and the rebuttal, but also in the quick cut to the speakers turning their heads away from one another simultaneously....

Brown hair and stubble: The new face of modern videogames

Your white, male, middle-aged character just got done shooting down an enemy with a powerful gun. He mutters a classic one-liner, which, combined with his brown hair and stubble, makes the audio clip sound extra-badass. As the defeated enemy drops their ammunition, your manly character grabs it and lunges forward into the third-person environment, continuing his epic, cutscene-filled journey. As most of you may have guessed, this is obviously a scene description from PlayStation 3 gameUncharted 2: Among Thieves....

Capcom teases us again with Resident Evil 5 Limited Edition box for PS3/360

So you might have already seen theResident Evil 5box Capcom, that dirty tease, gave to us at CES last week. It’s shiny, it’s tin, and it’s limited edition. And no, it didn’t contain a game. Now today, Capcom has decided to release a high resolution version of the PlayStation 3 Limited Edition box. Yeah, it’s pretty much the same thing except it says “Blu-ray” on it. In these official shots, you may see the second bonus disc, which contains a making-of feature and a trailer forResident Evil Degeneration....

Catherine’s intro confirms bedroom, sushi bar, rap

OK, so itstilldoesn’t show much in the way of actual gameplay (it’s an intro movie, what did you expect?), but itdoesshow off more of a sushi bar, Vincent’s bedroom and underwear, beer cans, sheep, a clock, an apartment door peep-hole, and the (Japanese) voice cast, which includes Norio Wakamoto, a guy whose mere presence makes anything cooler. Also, the rap song was provided by a dude called “L-Vokal”, in case you care....

PS3 fanboys, start your engines! Crytek has admitted that, of the two console versions ofCrysis 2, the PlayStation 3 is getting a better deal. The graphics-intensiveCrysissequel is squeezing a bit more power from Sony’s machine, and while it’s doubtful that the naked eye will recognize much of a difference, you can be sure that PS3 fans are rejoicing in the streets over this victory. “We haven’t found it more difficult to develop for PS3,” explains Crytek’s Carl Jones....

Crysis 2 writer thinks Halo is full of ‘bullsh*t’

Halocan be a divisive game, but there’s no denying that it has its fans, many of which consider the franchise’s narrative to be a grand and engrossing sci-fi epic. Unfortunately,Crysis 2‘s lead writer,Richard Morgan, disagrees. He thinks the game is full of bullsh*t. Morgan was asked about how hard it is to create a believable character whose face is hidden by a helmet. He argued that the helmet isn’t the problem, and offered Master Chief as an example: “I don’t likeHaloat all....

Dragon’s Dogma video makes me pine for silent characters

A goblin pack! Their kind hates ice and fire both! I’ll draw it near! Take the offensive! Fall still! That’s all I got from this footage ofDragon’s Dogmafrom Gamescom. Sure, the combat looks kind of fun, and riding on a flying enemy while you stab its back is pretty cool. But I can’t help wondering if the player might have taken down that griffin much faster if his AI companions would shut their trap for one goddamn second....
