PlayStation Network Update: Post-GDC flu edition

It seems like every attendee of the 2008 Game Developers Conference came home with some kind of sickness. I feel bad for the rest of the team as well as for my journo peers. But I managed to steer clear of the “handshake hiv” by using tried-and-true self-developed event solutions like drinking only orange juice-based cocktails and opting for the “fist pound” rather than the slimy handshake. Also, pancakes. ThePlayStation Blogwas also there at GDC, partying hard, and now it looks like they caught the bug as well....

Podtoid 81: Sting and Brad Nicholson at the gym

Image by Adam Dork. It’s almost 2009, andBonerQuestis out. These are the two main things we talk about on Podtoid 81, though sadly not as much of the latter as you’re probably wishing for. This week, the reg’lar cast (being Topher, Jim, Aaron, and myself) talked about the following, which can be listened tohere: – Brad Nicholson is more ripped than you will ever be in your entire life...

Pollen Sonata on its way to the Wii? Maybe?

This is curious. An unnamed, unsigned Danish developer has posted a video of its current Wii project on Youtube in the hope of finding a publisher. There’s nothing to identify themon the pageother than the username “ChronoDK,” and there’s no link to any Web site. Just as intriguing is the game. The trailer is brief, but appears to show a cross between a flight sim, platformer and 3D puzzler, with the player controlling a small nugget of pollen as it journeys through a bright, summery garden in an attempt to find a flower....

Pre-E3 09: Just Cause 2 looks awfully familiar in this video

I hope y’all enjoy trailers, because there’s a flood of them on the way thanks to GameTrailers TV and Geoff Keighley nabbing a bunch of exclusives right before E3. Among the five million videos shown last night was a trailer forJust Cause 2, a game which probably doesn’t have top priority on your radar. But maybe it should. You shouldn’t need to be reminded that A) trailers are cut to make a game look as good as possible and B) I tend to be overly enthusiastic when it comes to pre-release coverage, but still....

Preview: LEGO Rock Band

When Harmonix and Traveller’s TalesannouncedLEGO Rock Bandback in April, the Internet went a bit crazy, charging that Harmonix had finally joined Activision among the ranks of the money-grubbing sequel-makers of the world. Granted, the mash-up seemed to come out of left field — a LEGO-infusedRock Bandgame? Really? The connection between the two, not to mention the reasons for the game’s existence, seemed tenuous and dubious at best, respectively. But then, people got a whiff of the game’s varied soundtrack, spanning profanity-free classics like Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” and theGhostbusterstheme, and they started to come around....

The Sony-built tech will stream data to PSPs as well as provide stats.Edgesays that this could be ready for use in time for the 2011/2012 season....

RetroforceGO! episode 55: Chrono Trigger

Finally! Sorry the show is so late this week everyone, there were some technical difficulties. I wish I could say that was a euphamism for something really interesting, but it’s not. We can still pretend though, right? Just make up somethingChrono Trigger-ish about time travel and dinosaurs and I won’t spoil it for you, even though it was really just Garageband crashing and destroying the first cut. Have some highlights while you’re at it....

Review: Nimbus

A while back, I put the call out for people to putNimbuson their radar. It’s the kind of independent game that nearly everyone who ends up playing it loves, but too few players are attracted to it in the first place. Although, I suppose that description sums up a considerable amount of indie games. Even still,Nimbusis a delightful title that could surely use a boost in awareness. With any luck, this review can help the cause....

Review: The Warriors: Street Brawl

The Warriorsis the sort of film which should lend itself almost perfectly to a gaming experience. Its simplistic plot centered around eight gang members trying to cross New York City with every gang in the city looking for them practically begs to be made into a 2D brawler once you take out all of the running they do. It’s practically a no-brainer. Not that this has stopped anyone from screwing up a licensed game in the past....

Rub-a-Dub, Microsoft: the 360 soap controller

Hey, that controller looks pretty good, except it seems to have a case of the spots. Well, it’s marbled for a reason — this is actually a replica of the 360 controller made entirely of soap. Not only that, but there’smore where that came from. I guess if you’re serious about your gamer cred stretching as far as your guest bathroom, you could hook one of these up in there....
