Available as a download today, the app will allow folks to stream live hockey games in high definition using their PS3 consoles. There’s no escaping the fact that, despite the DS being a brilliant platform for games, its technical prowess leaves a little to be desired. According to Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata, the next iteration of the DScould jump right aheadof its rivals with unlimited 3G Internet access. Nowthatwould be tasty. This is merely something being pondered by Nintendo at the moment, so nothing has been set in stone. However, Iwata believes that 3G DS action could put the company in a good position versus Apple and the iPhone....

The 3DS hasn’t been receiving unanimously glorious press since it launched in the US yesterday. Between various complaints about the system itself and reports of “Black Screens of Death“, the PR could be better. Chief among the issues is, naturally, a spate of headaches suffered by some users. On this note, Nintendo has responded. “We have shown Nintendo 3DS at multiple events around the world to literally hundreds of thousands of people and have received very few negative comments,” said UK PR boss Rob Saunders....

The Passing’s newly revealed tag line, “Nobody Lives Forever,” foreshadows what’s to come. With the upcomingLeft 4 Dead 2DLC, you’ll be encountering only three of theLeft 4 Deadsurvivors. Yes, one of the original four will be killed. Youknowyou need a new brand name whenyour own staffcan’t remember which franchise game is coming out for which platform. That’s what happened in the case ofRikiya Koyama, aVesperiavoice actor. Everybody loves a good heist, right? Overkill Software seems to think so. Here’s a trailer of the Panic Room scenario from the studio’s upcoming game,Payday: The Heist. I haven’t had any personal experience with the cooperative shooter yet, but my fellow staff members who playedPaydayat E3 praised it every chance they got. Can’t wait to botch a robbery myself. Even though this edited video runthrough makes it look fairly easy, I’ll find a way....

I don’t possess the FPS skills of a Mountain Dew-amped 12-year-old. The things he can do are beyond my understanding. It’s like he’s jacked in to the game’s Matrix. Lines and lines of green code spill down his television screen, giving him the ability to see the all of the battlefield and predict your actions. His ability to crack a skull from across the map (while jumping, no less) and win close-quarters combat with the slightest twist of the analog sticks infuriates me....

Another TIGSource.com competition is complete, and now the rest of us have at least ten new indie games to waste a few hours with. We’ve reported on theAssemblee Competitionbefore (short version: artists created sprites without direction in the first phase, and programmers took those sprites and built games around them in the second), but now the votes are in and the winners have been announced. As was the case with theAdult/Educational Compo, I much prefer the second place entry to the grand prize winner:Bitworldis a relatively fun roguelike, butDungeon’s of Fayte‘s overall structure just blew me away....
