Spectrobes trailer, featuring amazing translators

Based on this trailer, I’m surprisingly interested in the upcomingSpectrobes: Originsfor Wii. When the first game released on DS, I had heard good things but wrote it off as another “catch ’em all” game that I simply wouldn’t have the time to invest in. Watching this one, with its two player co-op mechanics, makes me think it might be the perfect game to curl up on the couch with my woman for an hour or two every night....

Steam on your TV? Valve teases ‘big picture’ mode

Valve has announced a new addition to Steam, dubbed “big picture” mode. We’re not entirely sure what all this is going to entail, but it sounds intriguing, and more details are to come out during GDC this week. It’s described as offering “controller support and navigation designed for television interaction,” and “will enable gamers to enjoy Steam and their library of Steam games on more screens throughout the house.” To me, that sounds like they’re streamlining — and perhaps prettying up — the process of playing games on PC or Mac via that gigantic screen of yours....

Steam’s Perils of Summer sale: What’s the damage so far?

I hadn’t planned on posting any of the daily deals for Steam’s “Perils of Summer” promotion. Not because it isn’t terrific, especially compared to the competition’s offerings — it totally is — but because I figured you all were perfectly capable of typing “store.steampowered.com” into your browser. While I still think that’s the case, I figured it’d be worth checking in on this admittedly slow day. I wanna know — how much have you spent on this sale so far?...

The difference between Cruis’n for the Wii and Cruis’n USA for the N64

We all know the whole “The Wii is two GameCubes duct taped together” joke. Well, after watching this video, I can’t help but think maybe the Wii is more like a GameCube nailed to a Nintendo 64.Cruis’n USAwasn’t the best racing game ever made, but it was one of the funniest games someone could own when the N64 launched.Cruis’nrecently made a comeback on the Wii, but it seems like the developer really didn’t try that hard....

The first episode of Mortal Kombat Legacy

Now we bring you the first episode ofMortal Kombat Legacy, the live-action web series that many have been clamoring for since Kevin Tancharoen’s independently producedproof of concept videofrom last year. In this first installment, we’re being eased in to things with some reasonably easy to relate to characters. When Sonya Blade reports in about a shipment of stolen robotic weapons being prepared (which aretotallynot going to be relevant to the story later), Jackson Briggs and Kurtis Stryker think that they have a shot at capturing the elusive criminal mastermind, Kano....

The Kane & Lynch movie needs a new director

To me,Kane & Lynchseems like an ideal candidate for the whole game-to-movie conversion process. You strip out the technical and mechanical issues, and hopefully, hopefully, you have an interesting story. Jamie Foxx and Bruce Willis are still on board, after all. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of the film’s director. Patrick Alessandrin (District 13: Ultimatum) is no longer attached toKane & Lynch— and the planned October start date has been pushed into “TBD” territory....

THE Xbox LIVE system update hitting November 17th

THE big Xbox LIVE System Update is dropping on November 17th according to Web siteFast Company, who reportedly received launch confirmation from LIVE general manager Marc Whitten. This is the update that adds Twitter, Facebook, and Last.FM support to the service — its not one of those prep patches that keeps you from playingDragon Age: OriginsorCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2for a precious fifteen minutes. As you’ve seen in ourvideo preview of the update(or yourself if you’re one of the lucky ones in the beta) the update doesn’t allow Tweets or FB messages on the fly; rather, users have to jump into an application which makes this the second most pointless thing ever....

This Week in the Community: Beedog Space Temple

This week’s gaming setup belongs to Spajk. It’s a pretty simple setup, but very clean and neatly organized. He has a nice collection of games and I’m digging the consoles with his computer setup arrangement. Check out Spajk’s blog for more picturesof his setup. The A.M.M.O. soundtrack is out, everything on Wikipedia is true, Brad Nicholson is a man’s man, the EuroNARP 2 was pretty epic and more awesome happened in the community this past week....
