The Wii is quickly becoming the defacto system of choice for developers looking to make unconventional, original IP’s with low tech visuals.No More Heroes,Blast Works,De Blob,Zack and Wiki, and nowOpoona,a turn based RPG with PS2 quality graphics, all fit the low tech/high risk paradigm. Some people just can’t keep their gaming inside their computer. They need it to surround them on shelves and possibly as the centerpiece of a dining room table. The figures are produced by DC Unlimited and don’t have a firm release date yet, but they’re coming at some point....

I always love it when a company releases content for a new platform and doesn’t half-ass the process. Valve has been pretty fantastic with their launch of Steam for Mac. While far from perfect, Valve is at least ready to get more content on the distribution service. Available todayis the second round of Mac launch titles of about a dozen products. Games likeSam and Max: The Devils Playhouse Episode 2, Hearts of Iron 3, as well as cross-platform multiplayer titles likeKilling Floor, Altitude, andMadballs in Babo: Invasionround out many of these new additions....

Ninja Theory’s propitious new game,Enslaved, got a bunch of new screens and artwork today for your voracious eyes to gobble up with unscrupulous vigor. WhileHeavenly Swordhad a good premise and poor execution, this futuristic adaptation ofJourney to the Westseems to give cause for much optimism. The game is certainly looking pretty, although we’d expect nothing less from Ninja Theory, and I find the artistic direction to be most savory. Hopefully we get to see more from this game, as things have been very quiet up until now....

Can’t get enoughMario Kart? Soon you can smoke the competition in (semi) real life with this classically styled slot racetrack, featuring Mario and Yoshi. Why you would want to do that for more than 10 minutes is a mystery, but hey, people like Mario and peopleused tolike slot racers, so somebody’s dream just came true somewhere. Included in the set are the aforementioned racers, nine feet or so of track, two controllers, and some nifty background pieces to keep the theme going....

Virtua Fighter 5, or as I like to call it:The Only Reason To Own A PS3, looks amazing. I knowI have said in the pastthat it looks like a total rehash ofVirtua Fighter 4, but I’m beginning to think that I just don’t care.The above ad is proof that Sega simply could not add any more “pretty” to this game. In the spirit of theTurducken,Tyra Banksandthis goat, adding any more “gorgeous” to a game this overstuffed with “beauty” would cause it to burst, raining it’s sticky, electronic guts down on a village of innocent British farmers....

In fact, over the years I have developed something of a fear of PC gaming. So when people talk about graphics cards and processing speeds, my eyes simply gloss over. I admit, I just don’t know how they work, and the thought of buying and installing graphic cards, sound cards and whatever else terrifies me....

The Boston Indie Showcase winners have been announced! What’s that, you ask? If you guessed “PAX East’s way of letting Boston’s best up-and-coming studios get the attention they deserve,” then you sir are a psychic. Or you got a hold of the press release. I’d much rather it be the first one, though. All six games will be on full display from March 26 through March 28 at the Hynes Convention Center where PAX East is set to take place....

I’ve been playing preview code of Atlus’ upcoming DS RPGEtrian Odyssey IIIfor a week or so now, but I haven’t made it very far into the game. I’ve played enough to give some early impressions, but maybe not enough for a full preview. Atlus helped out yesterday with a showing of some of the later parts of the game. They also showed off some of the new additions to the third game in the EO franchise....

Sony’s competitor in the baseball space, 2K Sports’Major League Baseball 2Kfranchise, has included analog-stick controls for years. But the folks at Sony San Diego, the studio behind theMLB The Showseries, vowed not to implement analog controls until they felt they could do it right. They’re finally bringing analog controls intoThe ShowwithMLB 11 The Show, and the pitching setup, at least, is very different from the system inMLB 2K. That franchise’s developer, Visual Concepts, is glad to seeThe Showcatching up with the times, but a designer onMLB 2K11recently told me he finds the premise ofMLB 11’s analog pitching to be “boring....

Sony has announced that it will begin rolling out cloud-based storage for the PlayStation 3 tomorrow. Currently restricted to PlayStation Plus users, the new feature will allow you to make up to 1,000 game saves online, to a limit of 150 MB of data. Online storage will be accessed via the XMB, where players can download their game progress from any PS3 system. The new feature will tie in with theXperia Playand upcomingNext-Generation-Portable, allowing users to keep track of their progress wherever they are....
