What does it mean to be hardcore? [This month Destructoid celebrates 7 friggin’ years of whatever it is we do! Here’s the most popular article of this weekend, back in 2007, and easily one of my favorite story headlines of all time. Check ourGolden Archivesfor more top stories from our past. -Niero] I don’t know, but it’s likely that you know better than I do; maybe you’re the hardest of the hardcore....

A tiny update will be available today, adding the Minna de Spelunker lounge, which will allow players to launch multiplayer inside Sony’s revolutionary social service. Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape revealed, detailed

We already knew that something called Desperate Escape was coming our way, but now we know more on what this DLC forResident Evil 5is about. In my last story on the topic I suggested that Desperate Escape was about Chris and Jill eating at fine restaurants and then “dining and dashing.” Turns out that I was way off. As fun as that would have been, Escape tells the story of how Jill Valentine and BSAA Agent Josh Stone as they escape from the Tricell facility....

Resident Evil Revelations now with hot nub action

Resident Evil Revelationsexcites me, especially after catching the leakedTGS trailerthe other day (though that may be in a totally different way). The game is just breathtaking on the 3DS and, even more so, shows promise of bringing the series back to its corridor confined core. I have to say my experience playing the game at E3 though left slightly underwhelmed in the control department. Listen I appreciate the nostalgic feeling the game induces atmospherically, but that doesn’t mean I want the tank controls too....

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries announced for 3DS

Wait, what? AnotherResident Evilgame is coming to the 3DS? Is that some sort of record for an unreleased console? I think it might be. Well, to be fair,Resident Evil: The Mercenarieswont betotallynew. From the sounds of it, the game will feature scenarios, characters, and gameplay from the Mercenaries modes found inResident Evil 4andResident Evil 5, but with new online co-op and competitive modes. That’s cool with me. The Mercenaries was easily my favorite part ofResident Evil 5....

Review: Nier

A talking book, a quasi-possessed woman who fights in her underwear and can’t stop swearing, a boy who turns everything he sees into stone and a man with no nipples who fights to save his daughter from a terminal illness.Niermay win an award for the most diverse and eccentric band of heroes ever seen in a videogame. Whether it could ever win anything else, however, is another matter entirely. Cavia is a developer that excels at stories and characters, but rarely seems to succeed in the gameplay department....

Rock Band DLC: Soundgarden tries to live, does

Can anyone confirm that Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell isnotimmortal? Because I’m pretty positive that this guy doesn’t age. Guitarist Kim Thayil has always looked like he was 79-years-old, but the frontman himself looks pretty much as he did back in the 80s. I’m starting to think that Cornell feeds on the life-force of his fans to stay young. Which is why the band is headed back out on tour this year: so he can feed....

Romero: Zenimax id buyout is ‘disgusting’

Well, it didn’t take him long. Outspoken game designer and former id man John Romero has stuck his oar into theZenimax/id buyout situation, sharing only one adjective on the idea of Bethesda’s parent company owning the famousDoomstudio: Disgusting. Romero did what most people seem to be doing these days, andrushed to Twitterin order to vocalize his thoughts, stating simply: “ZENIMAX??????? Disgusting.” Of course, Romero isn’t a man who leaves things atonestatement, and continued voicing his disgust by claiming that “Fallout 3boughtDoom” in a later Tweet....

Rory McIlroy looks good in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11

That’s a screenshot of Rory McIlroy, the co-coverboy (with, uh, Tiger Woods) ofTiger Woods PGA Tour 11. He’s a 21-year-old golf phenom from Northern Ireland who won his first PGA Tour event this past Sunday at Quail Hollow, shooting acourse-record-breaking 62in his final round. You’ll probably be hearing his name much more often in the near future, which is why EA sent out 14 in-game images of him. One of the big reasons why McIlroy is on the cover of the game is that for the first time,Tiger Woods PGA Tourwill feature the Ryder Cup, a biennial golf tournament between the United States and Europe....

Saints Row 3 ditching some of its urban flava

Saints Row, as a series, has always been about gangstas. The urban-oriented setting, dress options and themes felt like a direct response toGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas. But THQ’s Danny Bilson doesn’t see theSaints Rowfranchise as even being in competition withGTAanymore and has revealed that the upcoming third iteration is dispensing with some of its thug life focus. We don’t compete with GTA. We’re differentiating even further with GTA with this one....

Sam & Max season three outed as The Devil’s Playhouse

It would appear that Telltale Games is preparing a brand new adventure for Sam & Max with a third season of mindbending puzzles and faintly embarrassing witticisms. It’s calledSam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse. At least, that’s according to the OFLC. The rating board outed the game recently, shedding a little titular light on the future of the Freelance Police. That’s all there is at the moment, but considering the last season ended withEpisode 5: What’s Cooking Beelzebub?...
