Next Tekken game: Tekken 5 … again?

Tekken Zaibatsu, who just happen to be the greatestTekkensite on the web, brings usnews courtesy of Famitsuthat the PlayStation 3 is going to be seeing aTekkenbefore the often-hinted-atTekken 6. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrectionis kind ofTekken 5.5. It’s a minor upgrade that showed up in arcades a short while afterTekken 5, and was later ported to the PSP where it reigns as the finest game on the system (and the only reason to own the dumb paperweight)....

Nintendo DLC Update: Dragon Quest: Wars and Altered Beast

It’s Monday and that means more stuff is hitting Nintendo’s various digital distribution services. Prepare for the below. Looking forward to looking backward again this week on WiiWare with the releaseARKANOID Plus(600 Wii Points). Handled by Taito, this is promised to be an updated version of the classic arcade title. With a new VS and Time Attack mode, who are we to argue with such a bold statement. On an unrelated note,DRiift Mania(800 Wii Points)is happening on WiiWare as well....

NIS announces Cross Edge, a clusterf*ck of characters

Don’t you just love crossovers? It’s like fanfiction, but it doesn’t makeyour eyes bleed. And so, Nippon Ichi has announced that they’ll be bringingCross Edgeover here to the US, a title that draws from NIS, Capcom, Idea Factory, Gust, and Namco Bandai. It’s going to be some hot Morrigan on Prinny action. And yes, I mean inthatway. The title is an RPG of sorts, running you through a side-scrolling dungeon and then throwing you into J-RPG combat....

No, this Spy Hunter movie won’t die

Cue Henry Mancini’s theme toPeter Gunn. Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. is looking to make a Spy Hunter film. If this sounds familiar, it’s because Midway had been in talks with Universal Pictures to make the film since 2003 (and that’s not a typo). In its many years in development hell, the flick had everyone from John Wo to Paul W.S. Anderson to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson attached. Warner now owns the rights to most of Midway’s assets, includingMortal Kombat,Joust, andSpy Hunter....

Now Nvidia won’t be powering Nintendo’s 3DS handheld?

Digital Foundry is reporting that, contrary tomuch speculation, NVIDIA will not be supplying Nintendo with graphics processors for the 3DS. According to the blog’s two unnamed, unconnected sources, Big N’s next portable, “features a design totally divorced from the NVIDIA Tegra.” Current speculation is that Nintendo has chosen a Japanese partner to work with on the 3DS’ GPU. The story is corroborated byIGN, who claims to have come by the information from, “several developer sources,” which is no more or less helpful in confirming this development....

Ocarina of Time 3DS? Yes please!

A handheld version ofThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeis something I’ve been wanting for years. When it was announced for the 3DS, I was so excited a little onion poo came out of my bum (probably) and I’m glad this smattering of new screens has arrived so I can tell you how excited I am. I know some people are annoyed that the Water Temple is fixed and I’m sure somebody will moan about the enhanced graphics, but whatever....

One-off wonderland: new Retro Game Challenge pics and video

At E3 earlier this year, we checked outRetro Game Challenge,a Nintendo DS game based on the Japanese television showRetro Game Master. Players are thrown back into the 1980s to play games that look and sound a lot like… well, the games we played in the 1980s. The above video gives us a look at some of the game’s in-game titles, like theGalaga-lookingCosmic Gate, or theR.C. Pro Am-ishRally King. I’m still looking forward to seeing more of the fullDragon Warriorstyle role-playing game that we heard about, which is also built intoRetro Game Challenge....

Ooh la la, it’s a Fake game Friday contest

You probably already know the deal with Fake Game Friday: you come up with an idea for a game, it gets posted by the Dtoid writers, etc. I’ve recently acquiredKiller 7for the PS2, and, to tell you the truth, I’m not getting into it.Therefore, I am offering it up as a prize for a contest centered around next week’s FGF. Whoever makes the weirdest/coolest/most hilarious fake game submission, from now to next Thursday, will not only get their fake game posted on Dtoid’s home page, but I will also ship you my copy ofKiller 7free of charge....

Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions has … one save file, folks!

With sad predictability, it would appear that another publisher has cottoned onto the “one save file” scheme experimented with inResident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Namco Bandai is the unsurprising felon, with word thatPac-Man & Galaga Dimensionscannot have its saved scores and unlocked content deleted. Dimensionshas no scoring table,as reported by Wired. Your high score is all that’s recorded, and it cannot be reset — which naturally puts a dampener on its value as a secondhand title....

Pixelbrushes One: Space Invaders

Sometimes people send me links about game art and say, “Hey Colette, you should post this since you’re so into this stuff.” For some reason, it never occured to me that a weekly column could be in order. This morning, a friend sent me an incredible link to the subject of today’s column, and it clicked into place so exactly I felt like I was inTetris. Welcome to Pixelbrushes: a series dedicated to the amazing art of video games and the people who create it....

PlayStation Network update: Who wants to go skiing?!

I just made up a word to describe this week’s PSN update: mehtastic. I already trade marked it, so don’t even try and steal it. Seriously though, this week’s update is far from stellar. The gameGo! Sports Skihas been released for $2.99. It’s a skiing game that utilizes the SIXAXIS controller. It will more than likely have better controls thanLairtoo. The Simpsonsdemo is the best item of today’s update. Hard to believe that there hasn’t been a goodSimpsonsgame sinceBart’s Nightmare....

Pre-E3 09: Madden NFL 10 devs talk about putting in co-op

It’s no fun getting your ass kicked inMadden. Just because you never watch football, don’t have all these different patterns ingrained in your head, and aren’t in a frat, doesn’t mean that you should be subjected to an hour of trash-talking by someone who barely plays games. I mean, let’s see them try and take down evenoneColossus. Ahem. Anyways, all that has changed, with the game now featuring co-op: having both players on the same team....

Pre-order Child of Eden, get pretty poster for your wall

If you’ve got an Xbox 360 and you like pretty things that are also reasonably fun, I’d say you should go ahead and pick up Q Entertainment’sChild of Eden. Pre-order it atGameStopand get a nice pre-order bonus, too. The retailer is offering up a prettyChild of Edenposter, which I think will look totally radical next to that velvet, black light panther picture you have above your bed. I’m also noticing that the game is $10 cheaper than most 360 games at $49....
