Fleshy new Serious Sam 3: BFE screenshots

The Headless Kamikaze from theSerious Samseries have got to be up there with the Medusa heads and Fleamen of the gaming world. They’re obnoxious in seemingly every way possible, and there is no greater shame than when one of them manages to sneak up behind you. These screenshots fromSerious Sam 3: BFEshow how they’ve progressed over the years. Gotta love that bodaciousSerious Sam IIdesign. The newest version looks particularly rotten, and — oh GOD — they have a robotic eye now....

flOw recreated using the StarCraft II map editor

Modders never cease to amaze me. Maybe it’s a simple thing to useStarCraft II‘s map editor to make a recreation of thatgamecompany’s brilliant game,flOw. I wouldn’t know because the very idea of trying to figure out how one would do such a thing intimidates the hell out of me. Thank goodness that there are people out there to take care of those things for me. The above video shows exactly that:flOwwith Zerg....

Friday Night Fights: Portal Kombat edition

This week saw the release of two highly anticipated games,Portal 2andMortal Kombat. You would think that as a fighting game aficionado, I’d be all over pulling Fatalities, but I’ve actually never been a fan of theMortal Kombatfighting system. I have heardgood thingsfrom many people though, so I’ll definitely have to check it out. However, I’m really excited to playPortal 2. I have a confession to make. I’ve never been a PC gamer and as such, I just beat the firstPortalgame last week....

GameFly files formal complaint against the USPS

Ah, the USPS. I can only speak for my local branch of this lovely organization, but if the rest of the United States Postal Service isanythinglike my lot, then it is made up primarily of lazy, incompetent imbeciles. Apparently, GameFly feels the same way, havinglodged a formal complaintover the high number of damaged goods and the preferential treatment apparently given to competitors. According to the videogame rental service, the USPS “adopted a practice of manually culling out the DVD mailers of two high-volume shippers of DVDs, Netflix and Blockbuster, for special processing....

GDC 08: Portal devs talk narrative, development, rat men

So, uh — thisPortalthing is kind of a big deal, I hear. I guess that explains the huge, huge goddamn crowd outside thePortalpost-mortem at the final day of the Game Developers Conference, everyone giddy like kids on the first day of summer vacation. Portalproject lead Kim Swift and writer Erik Wolpaw were on hand to dig through the development of one of the year’s greatest games. It’s not unexpected that there was alotof hero worship in the room, and high expectations as to new insights into the development of the title....

GDC: Sony shows off Motion Fighter game concept

A pre-alpha title called Motion Fighter used Sony’s PlayStation Move motion-sensing controllers to facilitate one-on-one street fighting at their GDC press conference this afternoon. A demonstration we watched had a person swinging his fists — both loaded with a Move controller — to beat down an on-screen thug. The motions looked to be on a 1:1 basis, with the on-screen fists of his character seeming to connect perfectly in line with his real world movements, but they didn’t seem to connect at the expected time....

Get out your crayons: Capcom Final Fight coloring contest

As a nonconformist, I go outside the lines when I’m coloring. That may not be the best idea for Capcom’s Color of Conflict coloring contest. They’ve put together some digital cover art for the upcoming game release Final Fight: Double Impact. Sans color. It’s up to fans to color it. The best design goes on an expenses-paid trip to New Orleans, where’ they’ll go to the Captivate event, see new games, hang out with Capcom staff (all great people, BTW) and have a blast....

Get your ass to PAX! No More Heroes 2 playable at PAX 2009

I’m so frickin’ jealous of all of you that will be at PAX 2009 this weekend. Unfortunately, one of my stupid friends decided to get stupid-married and I’ll be at his stupid-wedding in NYC next Saturday, when instead I should be living out my dream of being one of the first to playNo More Heroes: Desperate Struggle. Theoriginal gameis one of my all time favorites. It works as both a mindless beat ’em up, a deep analysis of the modern American gamer, and a laugh-out-loud comedy all at once....

Ghostbusters 3: Snot Ropes, Pepto Rivers, and Singed Marshmallow

The buzz on the two newGhostbustersgameshas been decidedly low on Dtoid. Earlier today, in serious gastrointestinal distress, I was finally blessed with the leisure to slog through the DecemberGame Informer, which had been sitting in my bathroom for weeks. I will preface the following remarks by saying that I am always happier at proclamations of NEW properties, than I am of franchise deals, sequels, or remakes. I have a brain chemical imbalance, you see, that precludes my enjoyment of repetition....
