A critical part of the gaming experience, yet one that doesn’t get discussed very often, is sound. I’m willing to bet the vast majority of people reading this right now have an mp3 library full of video game music and remixes, and I’d even go so far as to say most of you probably have something video game themed as your ringtone & text message alert. Yet, even though the sounds of gaming are, to many of us, immediately more recognizable than whatever is currently popular on the radio, it rarely comes up in any significant form when we talk about games....

Remember that PlayStation 3D displaythat was announced during Sony’s press conference at E3 this year? They told us that the 24″, $499 set bundle would come with a pair of 3D glasses, an HDMI cable, and a copy ofResistance 3. But today we saw anAmazon.com link for pre-order, andMotorStorm: Apocalypsewas listed as the bundle game. Later we saw that GameStop had an even more confusing bundle listing, with bothMotorStorm: Apocalypse andResistance 3listed as bundled....

So you likedMount & Blade: Warband, but perhaps you wished it had firearms? Good news, the sequel toWarbandhas just that! The upcomingMount & Blade: With Fire & Swordwill also let you wield muskets and pistols as sidearms for you hero, rather than being stuck with musketmen infantry and the like. New features include the aforementioned firearms introduction to combat, battle formations, and enhanced siege mechanics — blow up the wall, bribe an officer, or poison the well or the food supply to get past defenses....

If anyone is going to squeeze every ounce of graphical power out of the Nintendo DS, it’s going to be Team Ninja. Still, I’m amazed at how greatNinja Gaiden Dragon Swordsis turning out. I mean, the last 3D game I played on the Nintendo DS wasHotel Dusk— how can I not be surprised by this?So the game looks great, we’ve established that. I’m still not sold on how the game will control, but I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt....

The planet’s temperature is increasing. We all know this. Every Summer seems to be the new hottest on record, and we’re rapidly becoming mere space-burgers on the great cosmic barbeque of the sun. Thankfully though, there are games companies out there doing their best to protect us from flame-grilled crispiness by trying to ensure that we won’t see daylight for the entirety of the season. Nintendo have announced their Summer Wii and DS lineup, firmly turning the mighty firehose of gaming justice onto the traditional dry period in the year’s release schedules....

Speaking with Japanese newspaperNihon Keizai Shimbun, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata gave a quote — one that discusses game droughts — that’ll surely be fun to look back on a couple of years from now. “It’s important that you be able to supply software with no pause,” begins Iwata. “With the DS and Wii, following the titles that were released at launch, the momentum dropped when there was a gap in software releases....

Some of you may remember theMr. Destructoid avatar mosaicthat was made by Community member tehuberone way back in the day. The images were made up of over 500 user avatars forming an unholy alliance. Now, TheToiletDuck has made some new avatar mosaics with all of the images comprised of over 1,000 user avatars. TheToiletDuckwanted to show his lovefor Destructoid somehow and this is the result of his lovin. TheToiletDuck took some of the images found over onthe Destructoid Wallpapers pageand fused them together with over 1,000 avatars....

While videogame analyst and chocolate avenger Michael Pachter wasspreading his opinion-muckon the differences between Natal and the Sony Wiimote, he also predicted a price point for the new technology. Pachter reckons that Natal will be rather cheap, costing a mere $50. “As for pricing, each has to keep the consumer’s cost relatively low in order to achieve broad penetration,” he explains. “I think that Natal will cost $50, as it only really involves a camera (a three-lensed camera, but a camera nonetheless)....

The buzz aroundLux-Painis somewhat minimal, but those that know of this DS horror adventure game are certainly intrigued. I knowI’minterested in an adventure game about evil worms that force people to commit atrocious crimes, and if that kind of thing turnsyouon, be aware that all first shippings of the game come with a free comic book. Judging by some of the pictures I’ve seen, it’s guaranteed fap material for pervoids, too!...

Microsoft has come down hard on some pirates this Halloween. No, not the slutty girls in short skirts and low cut pirate blouses or the guys dressed up like Johnny Depp, silly. Gosh, why would you think that unless you constantly think in really bad puns, in which case you lead a terrible life. No, for the past week Microsoft has been banning “a small percentage” of Xbox Live users that had systems that were modded to play pirated games....
