There is an increasing trend among developers to write cutscenes off as narrative failures, an attitude that declares any story that cannot be told within an interactive context runs contrary to what a videogame should be. There are certain benefits to cutscenes — you’re able to control the pacing and the focus of the audience, and thus better communicate your ideas....

Little things with big heads are cute, there’s no getting around that. Just so we’re clear, perverts, I’m talking about the latest screenshots from the upcoming Wii title,MySims. The EA Redwood Shores developed title is looking more adorable than ever, and this time one of them drops an ice cream cone … and the others laugh! As if that weren’t enough confirmation of the pure evil that lurks within this game, one of the Sims appears to have a My Chemical Romance-style emo hairdo....

I keep seeing these notices and releases for games on sale. A note here, a release there. What the hell is going on? It turns out that Microsoft is having a couple of sales promotions. The ongoing one is called Extreme Shopping Week, and tomorrow, April Fools’ Day, is the “Extreme Shopping 1-Day Sale.” Both are good. We were losing track of what was on sale when, and how much it would cost....

Holy crap, that was fast! Released just over a week ago,Trauma Teamhas already become the recipient of an Amazon Deal of the Day! If you go to the online retailer today and say, “I would like a copy ofTrauma Team, please,” they’ll give you one for the princely sum of $30. Hell, they’ll do it even if you don’t ask. It’s all automated and stuff. That’s ten dollars off, twenty-five percent, which seems like a pretty good deal to me....
