The Podcastle records tomorrow and our fans rock

I’m sure we’ve said this before but it bears repeating — Podcastle fans absolutely rule the school that they are too cool for. Not only do we have some amazing artwork above by community member Phallus Knife Fight, but check out the awesomely revamped Podcastle logo courtesy of Shakey1245. Excellent stuff! It’s been two weeks, so once again myself, Wardrox and Atheistium will be dragging our wretched hides from our clammy and sordid places of refuge to pay a vist to the Podcastle....

The Question: Are you getting a PlayStation Vita?

[Every Friday, Destructoid will pose topical a question to the community. Answer it if you want!] On this week’s Podtoid, we had quite a lengthy discussion about thePlayStation Vitaand whether or not it does enough to excite gamers. The best way to findthatout, of course, is to ask the gamers themselves. The PlayStation Vita is going to retail at a very competitive $250 price point, boast a touchscreen, touchpad, twin sticks, a camera, a microphone, and an Overlord Core powered by God Juice....

The Question: Do cutscenes represent narrative failure?

[Every Friday, Destructoid will pose topical a question to the community. Answer it if you want!] The subject of cutscenes crops up rather regularly in the games industry. There is an increasing trend among developers to write cutscenes off as narrative failures, an attitude that declares any story that cannot be told within an interactive context runs contrary to what a videogame should be. There are certain benefits to cutscenes — you’re able to control the pacing and the focus of the audience, and thus better communicate your ideas....

The Sims: The movie

I would take this over anAsteroidsmovieany day. And yes, in case you’ve been living under a rock, there reallyisanAsteroidsmovie in the works. The funniest part about this trailer is a two-year-old joke from Dale North. College Humor did aMinesweepermovie trailer backin 2007 and Dale made a crack about how horrible aSimsmovie would be. As a horror-comedy movie,The Simsmovie could be good. Better than all thatSawsh*t anyway. Also, Dale North is so dreamy....

These MySims screenshots are so cute that I just threw up a little in my mouth

Little things with big heads are cute, there’s no getting around that. Just so we’re clear, perverts, I’m talking about the latest screenshots from the upcoming Wii title,MySims. The EA Redwood Shores developed title is looking more adorable than ever, and this time one of them drops an ice cream cone … and the others laugh! As if that weren’t enough confirmation of the pure evil that lurks within this game, one of the Sims appears to have a My Chemical Romance-style emo hairdo....

This is the end, my only friend: Nintendo drops NES support

After 22 years (24 if you’re pedantic and Japanese)the NES is finally being retiredby Nintendo. As of October 31st, Nintendo plans to drop support for the ol’ girl, wreaking havoc with the plans of twenty-something nostalgists the world over. In further gloomy news, Nintendo has revealed they will be ending support for the SNES, Nintendo 64, Gameboy and Gameboy Pocket lines in the near future. Obviously this signals the end of an era, but unlike the final episode ofM....

On theBattlefield blog, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson also commented on whatwon’tbe at the show: the “co-op campaign, the introduction of Team Death Match mode and theBattlefield 3Battlelog web destination — featuring powerful social tools, feeds and detailed player stats....

Tons of good games on sale on Xbox Live now

I keep seeing these notices and releases for games on sale. A note here, a release there. What the hell is going on? It turns out that Microsoft is having a couple of sales promotions. The ongoing one is called Extreme Shopping Week, and tomorrow, April Fools’ Day, is the “Extreme Shopping 1-Day Sale.” Both are good. We were losing track of what was on sale when, and how much it would cost....
