Killspace Entertainment, an officially unannounced game development company consisting of former employees of Red 5, Obsidian, Pandemic and EA LA might be hard at work on a game based on Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam war epic,Apocalypse Now. The evidence? First is the knowledge that the company out of Calabasas, California has a project based on a licensed IP. But that could be anything. In what will probably be the strangest rumor this weekend, a new slice of gossip is claiming that Sonic the Hedgehog will be a playable character inMario Galaxy 2. In a way, that’s very plausible — if you’ve not been able to star in any decent games yourself for the past ten years, why not gatecrash someone else’s game? The rumor’s being spread byNGamer, a UK-based Nintendo Magazine. According toNGamer, a “trusted source” at Nintendo has spilled the beans, explaining that Sonic will be in a stage called “Green Hill Galaxy....

Castle Crashersis no longer an Xbox LIVE Arcade exclusive. The studio behind the title, The Behemoth, is bringing the quirky brawler to PlayStation Network. According to theGameSpot Comic-Con previewof the PSN version, PlayStation 3 owners should expect a comparable action-packed experience. Trophy support has been confirmed, but little else is known. The Behemoth is keeping their lips sealed about any possible Sony-exclusive additions. The studio also isn’t talking release date or price....

We had the chance to takeNeed for Speed: Nitrofor a spin on the Wii at an EA preview event in San Diego a day before Comic-con officially kicked off. This was the first time we were able to check out the title, which was also developed for the DS. The early verdict? This racer is crazy fun, and lives up to gameplay you’d expect from aNFStitle. This street racer takes players across the world, all while dodging cops, drifting, and hitting nitro boosts in straightaways....

Sega must really be gearing up forGolden Axe: Beast Rider, as they’ve sent yet another video to show you. This is the first of a weekly series of videos leading up to the release showing off the various mounts in the game. The creature in the video is called an “Abrax” and, according to Sega, is an amalgam of two mounts from the originalGolden Axe. Thing is,Golden Axeonly had three creatures you could ride and two of them were dragon-like with the only things to distinguish them being color and method of expelling fire....

The Destructoid tip line reached critical mass, when PS3 users were hit with an unannounced firmware update (without any explanation) this morning. Rumors swirled, and according to at least onesource, the mystery code was enacted to do the unthinkable — allow users to rip PS2 games to their PS3’s hard drive. Since then, we’ve learned that the update is actually designed to addfurther stabilityto the PS3’s backward compatibility. We’re sorry to disappoint any pirates out there, but you aren’t going to be able to rent games and rip them to your PS3’s hard drive on the cheap....

I haven’t seen much on the new 360 Xbox Live Arcade titleSmall Armssince it was released last week so I thought I’d throw my two cents out there for those who were curious as to how it would play. Some little turd company named Wall Wireless LLC (great name, guys) is suing gaming giants Sony and Nintendo as well as gaming wannabe Nokia over wireless use in their devices. Apparently these three have infringed on U.S. patent 6,640,086, named “Method and Apparatus for Creating and Distributing Real-Time Interactive Media Content Through Wireless Communication Networks and the Internet.” They’re calling out the PSP, DS, and Nokia’s hipper phones, and name certain online games like Mario Kart DS and WipeOut Pulse....

Sony has confirmed that, while the PS3 is still playing a long game, it’s hard at work on whatever comes next. “For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life,” said CFO Masaru Kato during a financial call, “but this is a platform business, so for the future platform — when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that — but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there....

Sony is loading the hype cannons and preparing for a full assault withGod of War III, and who can really blame them? As Kratos gears up for an all-new adventure, Sony product manager Claire Backhouse has sprayed her PR juice in the faces of fans, claiming thatGod of War IIIwill be a thoroughly unique game for this generation, “God of War IIIcombines these new technologies with the much loved gameplay elements from the previous games — Puzzle solving, brutal combat and epic set-piece battles,” explains Backhouse....

While this latest Sega Genesis Classics Pack for Steam may be the fourth of its kind, they haven’t run out of worthwhile games yet. In fact, we’re now getting into lesser-known-but-still-awesome territory. Take a look: Sega isoffering theseat a rate of $2.99 per game. The decidedly better deal, though, is to get all of the games in a bundle for $7.50. You know, I never did play more than twenty minutes ofLandstalker....

Just the other day, I was pondering why I hadn’t tinkered withSteam Tradingmuch yet. It allows you to swap full games (if they are Steam gifts) and in-game items with other players. As of today, the feature is no longer in beta.
