Videogames and Art: Destructoid hits the book launch and seminar

The life of a games journalist is an exciting one. We get to attendgeek conventionsandmusical extravaganzas, as well as get to grips with upcoming videogames. Sometimes though, we have to become more refined, more fringe, slightly more reserved. Sometimes we have to attend rooms full of women in shawls who are nodding their heads knowingly. Sometimes we go to book launches and art discussions. Sometimes we go to both of those at once....

WarioWare:Photograph on the way to DSiWare

I’m a big fan of the WarioWare games, if only for the fact that they are incredibly strange (and remind me a little bit ofRhythm Tengoku). Imagine my delight, then, to hear that Nintendo has plenty of WarioWare coming to the DSi’s downloadable service in the near future. This would be terrific news if in fact I planned to buy a DSi, which I do not, but still, I’m happy to hear it in that “some friends are getting married that you kind of know and had drinks with a few times” kind of way....

Weekend Destructainment: IT’S KOMBAT TIME!!!

It isn’t until you see a mashup of all the horrible clips from a particular show until you realize just how bad that show was. I remember loving theMortal Kombatcartoon show when I was younger. After watching this, though, I can’t believe I ever liked it. Damn you Internet. You continue to ruin my childhood. Spotted onpower-glove’s C-Blog.I’m a Weekend commander, giving out the orders for Destructainment. After the jump, check out the very useful scientific fact forTeam Fortress 2....

World at War map packs squeezed into a bundle

The three map packs forCall of Duty: World at Warhave been absurdly successful. We are talking millions of downloads here, folks. At $9.99 per add-on, that’s a whole lot of moolah for Activision and Treyarch. I’m going to shut up about how popular these things are in just a minute, so bear with me. As of today, a bundle containing all three DLC packs is being offered worldwide on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and in the US and Canada on PlayStation Network....

Would you play a Pokemon action game?

GameFreak pretty much has it made with the establishedPokémonformula. Ten years on and the series is still going strong, even after the huge Pokémania craze died down. Despite still being able to release the game as an RPG with only incremental changes, the team is always considering new ideas, one of which may be an action title. “Yes, I have thought of doing something new, and it makes me very excited to think of new elements for the game,” said game director Junichi Masuda toGame Informer....

A Valley Without Wind looks very … unique

A Valley Without Windis an upcoming exploration/survival title from Arcen Games. The aim is to stay alive through an ice age and the mysterious realm buried underneath as the snow starts to recede. Originally it was a a futuristic game with “realistic” environments, but has since switched to a straight fantasy deal with science-fiction elements. It’ll feature procedurally generated interiors, something the team is quite proud of. It’s looking rough, there’s no denying that, but the latest pre-alpha footage hints at a very clear visual ambition that, if successful, could be quite wonderful to behold....
