In past weeks, publishers have announced copious amounts of avatar gear in support of their games. T-shirts, hats, pets, props, etc… but nothing truly worth the price tag. This, however, justifies the existence of avatar gear in one fell swoop. If you are one of those Xbox Live users who have wondered why, exactly, there is gear for your avatar, this is your definitive answer. That said, if you don’t buy the full armorwhenyou partake of this, you’re doing it wrong....

I was going to use a regular screenshot of the game for my header, but then I found the picture above, which was actually titled “Rocket Riot”. No lie. Obviously, it wins. Look at all these people cheering for you, winners! Oh yeah, and about that. We had thisRocket Riotcontest, you see, and you guys had me cracking up over some of the entries. Incredible! In the end, I had to hand the Grand Prize toJoeCamNet(you’re able to hear his winning entryhere) for writing his own hilarious lyrics and rapping....

If host Chris Cashman wasn’t just rambling nonsensically during a recent game, then yes, yes it could. A poster over atXboxicwas reportedly playing the game when a contestant decided to go with the money instead of the mob. If the game wasn’t in beta, this would have netted him a cool 1200 MS points, but it was in beta so he got nothing....

Following on from today’s rumor that Infinity Ward is working on a secret project and can’t commit toModern Warfare 3, some more gossip has found its way into our ears that might shed a little more light on the situation. According to our industry sources, Infinity Ward’s new game will be an MMO. We’ve gotten word that IW is hiring people from Sony Online Entertainment, one of which may be the lead designer ofEverQuest II, and that a member of Blizzard employees may also be involved to help Infinity Ward get this new title off the ground....

BioWare has released aStar Wars: The Old Republicvideo that looks back on PAX East 2011. While there’s not a lot of actual game footage in there, it does show a very commitedStar Warsfan community and some cosplay. If you were at theThe Old Republicbooth during PAX East, maybe you can even spot yourself? I just hope you didn’t wait over 5 hours for it, although from the looks of it there was a great atmosphere to make the wait more bearable....

Sega is setting up its own arcade space near the convention center at next week’s Comic-Con in San Diego. They will have a number of upcoming titles open for play there includingSonic Generations, Rise of Nightmares, Captain America: Super Soldierand even an unannounced game. you may also get down withHouse of the Dead: OVERKILL, Guardian Heroes, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Shinobithere. If you’re going to be around those parts, be sure to stop by 345 6th Avenue (between K Street and J Street) in San Diego....

First Sonic and friends meet up with Mario and his pals inBeijing last year. I wonder who they’ll compete against in Vancouver in 2010. Sony next? Mario and PaRappa? Piposaru? Once again, Sega has been granted the sole game rights to the Olympics, this time for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. They have the rights to publish for console, handheld, mobile, arcade and even PC, and knowing Sega and seeing how well the Beijing games did, I bet they’ll hit all of those platforms up....

During Apple’s live event today, Epic Games president revealed its first iDevice game, which will be powered by the Unreal Engine 3. It’s codenamed “Project Sword,” and it’s being developed by Chair Entertainment, the folks behind the supremely awesome Xbox Live Arcade title,Shadow Complex. As the codename suggests,Project Swordis a one-on-one sword fighting game. The game will support multiplayer and Apple’s Game Center achievements. It also happens to look absolutely stunning, but why don’t you see for yourself?...

Shinobi‘s 3DS outing will have Streetpass functionality that brings extra challenge gameplay to the table. It’s all detailed in the above trailer, which helpfully spells it all our for us. Good going, SEGA! I was encouragedby what I’ve playedofShinobi, but I’ll need to get hold of the whole thing before I’m fully confident. I used to adore the oldShinobigames, so I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

One thing is very certain aboutLittleBigPlanet– it has room to expand. The title will perpetually grow through user-created content, that much is clear. But will Media Molecule continue to make content? In short, yes. Today,LBP’sassociate producer Eric Fong toldGameProthat Media Molecule will keep working on the title “to add to the player experience with new levels, costumes, materials, and a host of other content.” We hope those other pieces of content include extra level creation materials....

That’s right, folks! In a cynical and silly attempt to be different from all the other lame teaser countdowns that everybody hates, Sega has decided that tri-Ace’s new RPG,Resonance of Fate, will havea clock that counts UP. I … this is just … sigh. The clock is counting upward towardResonance of Fate’srelease date. If you’re unaware of the game, it’s yet another of tri-Ace’s pompously named roleplayers, published by Sega instead of the usual Square Enix....
