Selling hardware at a loss and expecting software sales to make up the difference is a common business model for console manufacturers. Unless, of course, you are Nintendo. The launch of thePSPgoand the massive content rollout for the PlayStation Network seems to have been making a pleasant amount of money for platform holder Sony. SCEA’s Eric Lempel has revealed toJoystiqthat the PSPgo launch week was the biggest ever week on PSN. Not surprising, when you consider it had16,000 bits of DLCspewed onto it. “It’s been tremendously busy on the storefront. We’ve seen, basically, our largest number of downloads ever for a week’s time period,” confirms Lempel....

It looks like the PS3 is sold out in Tokyo. Why? We’re not sure. It could have something to do with Summer Comiket (yummy cosplay here at Japanator), or it might be that people are off work because of the holiday (Obon). Or it might be that Sony is up to something. Regardless,Akibablogreports that all the stores in the Akihabara area are sold out of PS3s. They say that one store staffer said that there has been no PS3 shipment for almost two weeks....
