Brutal Legend rocks on Rocktober 13… yes, Rocktober

Double Fine and Electronic Arts has announced thatBrütal Legendwill hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 13 in the North America, and October 16 in Europe. Whoever wrote the press release for the announcement was forward-thinking enough to refer to “October” as “Rocktober,” because the game is, you know, kind of about rock music. Get it? Tim Schafer (or someone paid to make up something he said for public relations purposes) is thrilled....

Here’s what you may expect to get your hands on at the show: Capcom says that there will be tournaments and giveaways throughout the show, as well as a internet live stream by Capcom-Unity at the booth, located at booth #3425....

CES 2009: Feet-on with Nyko’s Rock Band/Guitar Hero ‘Metal Pedal’

WhenNyko first revealedits third-party drum peripheral kick pedal replacement, the “Metal Pedal,” I was in awe. As I put it: “it has a motherf**king skeleton on it, guys. And you can’t get much more metal than a skeleton.” As it so happens, I was wrong, and Nyko out-metaled themselves with the packaging for the “Metal Pedal.” Folks, it comes in a package shaped like a motherf**king coffin, andthat‘s how you get more metal than a skeleton....

Classic gaming breathes new life into classic gaming: the music of Mario Paint

Remember all that nonsense I spouted about the anthem of my bloody coup being played ontesla coils? No longer. My limited attention span coupled with my fascination with novel uses of old technology have led me to replace Nikola Tesla’s hammer of the Gods withMario Paintas the supreme instrument. Tipmonster TehUberOne (hereby promoted to Lieutenant Tipmonster) sent us a link to some music fromMike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!rendered inMario Paint’smusic engine, and being the curious little bastard that I am, I dug further and found much, much more — most of which is composed by just one dude, a bloke by the name of TomBobBlender....

Croal pulls BioWare’s head out of sand: Infanticide metaphors ensue

N’Gai Croal of Level Up currently hasa most interesting articleconcerning the notoriousMass Effect“Sexbox” report that disgusted videogamers the world over. Seeking an actual statement from BioWare members who have remained, in Croal’s opinion, far too quiet about the affair, he got co-founderRay Muzyka to say something out loud: We asked Muzyka about this during the last night’s D.I.C.E. Summit cocktail party. He told us that he wanted to first let the community respond to the erroneous statements made by Lawrence and other Fox News panelists (which he colorfully likened to having a complete stranger hold a gun to the head of one’s newborn baby) and that he’d been heartened by the support that BioWare had received....
