I was already thrilled when Atlus stopped by Destructoid HQ to give us a first look atPersona 3 Portable, but they actually had another PSP RPG in hand to share. Nice! Hexyz Forceis a polished, nice looking PSP role-playing game from the folks at Sting, makers of games likeYggdra UnionandRiviera: The Promised Land. Set to release in late May, this game is actually like two games in one, with independent story lines following two different characters through the same narrative arc....

AsAlien Swarmbecomes increasingly popular, we can expect to see an influx of mods. If not, we can hold PC snob Jonathan Ross personally responsible. He wants someone to make a full-blownDiabloclone, and now my expectations are nigh unmeetable. Thanks a lot, J Ross. The core game is solid, especially considering the price — isn’t the end-of-mission report with dots of all four players flying through the mapawesome? — but the potential for user-created projects is what stands out to me....

Today’s free App is the charmingly namedFly-flap: Tap Tap Battle vs Angry Cartoons. Apart from the ironic fact that the game doesn’t spell “accuracy” right during its end-game scores,Fly-flapis pretty damn good. It looks lovely, the gameplay is simple but gets increasingly challenging, and best of all, it’s free. Go get that one, and do play for more than one level because it starts to open up and get more interesting as new concepts are introduced....

Feelings aside, the Wii has become something of a phenomenon. Demand is still crazy high for a machine thatsomehardcore gamers consider obsolete, but kids and kids at heart find the most charming thing this side of anything found onCute Overload. Business 2.0,via CNN, put together a rather glowing piece on Nintendo and how they have come to dominate the current video game landscape. GameUniCon, the biggest videogame convention in New England, is set to take place this August 21 to August 23 at the Best Western Royal Plaza in Marlborough, MA. There’s going to be over 30 tournaments with cash prizes going over $10,000, there will be concerts with Freezepop, Powerglove, Konamie Kod and there’s going to be over 100 screens setup for freeplay with all sorts of videogame consoles....

If you do nothing else concerning this game, you must at the very least watch this incomprehensible trailer. Gamevil makes the best trailers, and this one forIllusiais no different. The game itself released for iOS today, and takes the form of a sidescrolling RPG. This comes from the same guys who made the critical darlingZenonia, so it’s certain to be a good one. I’ll need to check it out myself....

Back at E3 2009, Sony unveiled itsmotion-detecting controllers. Looking a little like a dildo with a glowing sphere on top, it was promised that the controller could detect the full range of 3D motion and replicate movement nearly 1:1. And Sony isn’t kidding. In a tech video shown during the publisher’s press conference at gamescom it was stated that the controllers had sub-pixel accuracy. The rest of the video stressed precision and showed the controller in a variety of 1:1 situations....

The previous game in this series really didn’t impress me too much, it was a littletoomuch of an RPG for my tastes. The newSuper Paper Mariochanges that by making the game play more like the original Mario — with a few new tricks thrown in for good measure. The game control hasn’t been too Wii-afied, either. There were some Wiimote tricks put in the game, but you still use the d-pad and buttons like the original Mario....

TheGears of War 3multiplayer betais coming this April, and you’re going to be able to play onthree new maps, plus check out some of the awesome new weapons. It makes the September 20 release date all the more easier to digest, doesn’t it? The beta isalso going to be the only way you’re going get a golden version of the new Retro Lancer. As described in my preview, this Lancer is like the regular Lancer, but with a bayonet attached to it instead of a chainsaw....

If you just got intoGuitar Heroby way ofGuitar Hero III, or you somehow missed the first two versions, you’ll be glad to know a new dual pack containing the first two games for the PlayStation 2 is now available. Activision has just released the two-disc pack containingGuitar HeroandGuitar Hero II, and your local games retailer should have it in stock. There’s over 100 songs to rock out to between the two titles, which isn’t bad for the asking price of $59....

It’s funny how openly people discuss their use of the R4 card and where they purchased them in gamer circles, but then again, it’s not like most people fear being busted by the police for playing a rom ofRhythm Tengoku Gold. On the other hand, Yasueda Okada was recently arrested in Osaka, along with her son, on charges that they were selling R4-type devices. A third suspect is in custody as well....

The winner of the “Best Independent Game” award from the 2009 Independent Games Festival,Blueberry Garden, has unexpectedly beenreleased on Steam. I thought indie games were supposed to take ages to come out, but I’m not about to complain about this one. TIGSource compares ittoNoby Noby Boyin that the game is both highly affordable and requires players to figure out what they’re supposed to be doing, exactly.
