Destructoid review: Eternity’s Child

I really, really hate doing header text for reviews, andEternity’s Childisn’t making my job any easier. Where do you start? Talking about the game’s complex history over many potential platforms? Talk about the game’s creator, Luc Bernard, whose skill at self-promotion has put his work firmly in the public eye for one reason or another? How the game fits in amongst indie gaming in general? I suppose by writing out which of those things I could use as an intro, I’ve essentially used them all....

Destructoid review: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Call it what you like — milking a franchise or delivering what the market demands — but Activision have made no bones about exploiting their key titles. Among them is the highly successfulGuitar Hero, the first signs of this being last year’sGuitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s,the mediocre(but full priced)Guitar Hero II“expansion.” Now Activision are actively planning to introduce band-specific titles to the market, even on the heels of announcing that they’d be supporting the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour title with significant downloable content....

Devs from defunct GRIN form new studio, Whiteout

GRIN was a studio which looked set to explode butfizzledwhen their ambitious expansion plans backfired. Lackluster sales (and questionable quality) of the three games they released last year caused them to close up shop suddenly. Now, former developers at the studio have announced the formation of a new company, Whiteout. At present, the studio has several projects planned, including a title using CryENGINE 3 which is in a demonstrable state. In addition, co-founder Joel Fagerlund has made comments regarding downloadable games, which could imply that they are working towards titles for console or PC services....

We also talked about games, includingFallout: New Vegas,Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright,Red Dead Redeption Undead Nightmare,Mega Man Legends 3,World of Warcraft,Kirby’s Epic Yarn,Super Street Fighter 4, amongst others. Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends screens

The first screenshots forDynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legendshave been revealed, mostly showing off the new character Guo Jia. He fights with some sort of magic stick link mystically to an orb of some kind. Because why not? It also appears that Xiahou Dun is getting his old Kirin Blade back, and hopefully that means a lot of characters from the main game will be getting some of their previous weaponry. I think reducing the amount of characters who share weapons — and consequently movesets — is the least Koei could do to make this expansion worthwhile....

E3 09: Burch ‘n Davis play Brutal Legend

Brutal Legend. You’ve seen it, heard it, and most likely have waited for it in great anticipation. I know that Anthony and I both have. And today, we finally got to have some hands-on time with a pretty extensive demo. We were taken through a good bit of the beginnings of the game’s story, some combat, and a little bit of exploration and driving as well. The demo, unlike some of the others we’ve played so far, was really quite varied, and showed off a lot of what the full game will have to offer....

E3 09: New sports revealed in Wii Sports Resort

I don’t care what people say, I love (and still play!) the originalWii Sports. It is super addictive and, to this day, truly uses the Wii remote in the best way possible. At last year’s E3, Nintendo showed off three sports that would be featured in the newWii Sports Resort(due out in July of this year). Using the brand new Wii Motion Plus attachment, I was able to play some pretty gosh darn rsponsive demos of frisbee, fencing, and waveracing....

E3: Details trickle in on PS3 exclusive Dust 514

The upcoming FPSDust 514is a weird one. Sony just announced that the title will somehow involve itself with the massively popular PC MMOEVE Online, as well as the Sony’s Next Generation Portable. The PS3 exclusive will get a closed beta on PSN in 2011, with potential launch in Spring of 2012. The game looks like standard sci-fi fare, about a a mercenary and a shot that might change the world and other such tropes....

E3: Kinect-supporting Hole in the Wall for XBLA confirmed

Breaking news on theHole in the Wallfront: the game is real! The crazed television show in which people wear gross bodysuits and attempt to contort their way through silly shaped holes in moving walls is headed to Xbox Live Arcade this year. As we had heard earlier unofficially, the game will make use of Kinect. I mean, of course it will — the subject matter is too perfect a fit for the device....

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West’s absurd preorder bonuses

You might have been able to tell from myJimpressions, but I’m really looking forward to Namco Bandai’sEnslaved: Odyssey to the West. With beautiful and bright visuals, some great characters, and a very cool take on a classic novel, this game is looking very hot indeed. It’s almost a shame that the game is also seeing the most ridiculous preorder exclusives yet. Enslavedfalls prey to the same “exclusive retailer bonus” bullshit that we’ve seen withTransformersandNew Vegas....
