Being a fan of pretty much everythingretro, I could not be happier with this batch of first screens from the upcomingContra 4(notIV?) for the Nintendo DS. In my humble opinon, the graphics could not be more perfect, triggering memories of whenContragames were nothing but super rad 2D sprites. Oh, hello, Mr. Fancy Polygonal Backgrounds. Yeah, sorry, we already made a decision. Have you met the ridiculously hot Ms. Parallax Scrolling? Thanks for coming down, though....

You jump over obstacles and slide under low-hanging walls. It’s charming enough, with a nice bit of music and solid graphics, though the sound is a little lacking. That always seems to be a problem with Android games. Anyway, if you need something quick n’ free for your mobile, this’ll do the trick....

Giant Robot premiered the third annual Game Over art exhibit last Friday during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Each year, the show puts out a call for entries for videogame themed artwork using different types of mediums. The art contributions continue to get better in style and quality each year, and there were some really great submissions this time around. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Boltswas a weird one for me. I loved it as an outlet for creativity with familiar characters and it’s got one thing I can always support, vibrant blue skies, but I’m still not over thinking about how potentially awesome the game would have been as a more traditional follow-up. Well, maybe all those developers weren’t lying: the PlayStation 3 is a bitch to program for. Thelatest delaycasualty for Sony’s mean machine isGhost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, which was originally slated to hit all major platforms around the same time. Time to strike the PS3 from that global launch list: … Ubisoft announced their Q4 lineup for the 2006-2007 fiscal year. Mysteriously absent from that list is the PlayStation 3 version of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2....

By now you may have obtained your very own copy of theGuinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, but Guinness is still busy celebrating. At least, they were busy yesterday in London, where over 80 cosplayers gathered at the Millenium Bridge to commemorate the launch of the book. They set their own record, in fact, by assembling the largest gathering of game-related characters in one place, which Guinness busily documented for what will hopefully be the 2009 Gamer’s Edition....

We knew the new map pack forHalo: Reachwas comingin March, but now we know it’s coming out for sure on March 15. Hey, that’s one day right before Destructoid’s birthday! The “Defiant Map Pack” will include two new versus maps (Condemned and Highlands) and one Firefight map (Unearthed.) It’s important to note that Bungie had no hands in making these new maps and all credit goes to Certain Affinity and 343 Industries....

IfCritter Crunch, an upcoming arcade puzzle game for the PlayStation Network, was on the Penny Arcade Expo show floor last weekend, I would have nominated it for Game of The Show. Granted, a puzzler might not have stood up to the incredible games on the floor this year, but I think it would have held its own. Capabara Games had previously releasedCritter Crunchfor the iPhone, and it’s a great game on that platform, but the PlayStation Network version is on a totally different level....
