Sega’s classicOutRunfranchise is getting an online kick up the arse withOutRun Online Arcade, coming to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network in early 2009. As well as brand new hi-def visuals,OutRun Online Arcadepromises six-person multiplayer to accompany its 15 courses. The game is developed by Sumo Digital. OutRun is one of Sega’s most popular franchises, developed by the famous Yu Suzuki in 1986. Suzuki always refused to call it a racing game, preferring instead to call it a “driving” game....

The other day we posted acurious bit of newsconcerningSonic Unleashed, where it looked likely that the game was delayed in Japan for “quality” issues, while the North American release had not changed at all. This led some to the logical conclusion that Japan would be receiving a superior version. Sega got back to Destructoid and kindly directed us to a Japanese statement,found here, which claims that the Japanese delay is part of its “sales strategy and marketing schedule....

A couple of months back,we told you thatEA was planning on releasing songs performed by real singers in Simlish, the language Sims speak inSimsgames. The first song by Nelly Furtado, “Manos Al Aire”, is now out and it sounds satanic! Actually, it’s not that bad. It’s nice to listen to despite the fact that you may’t understand a damn thing. And speaking ofThe Sims, the first expansion pack,World Adventures,will be out on November 17....

Sony CEO Howard Stringer has lashed out at those who criticized the way in which Sony handled the PSN outbreak, specifically the amount of time it took tonotify consumers. His defensive statement displays disbelief that anybody could feel Sony was sluggish with its communication. “This was an unprecedented situation,” Stringer said. “Most of these breaches go unreported by companies. 43% notify victims within a month. We reported in a week. You’re telling me my week wasn’t fast enough?...

Respected game developer Warren Spector has criticized the industry’s tendency to focus on graphics and combat, stating that he’s “bored” by all the slick visuals and fancy fighting. He’d rather see more storytelling and non-hostile AI stand out from the crowd. “I’m disappointed by the fact that we still focus solely on combat mechanics and rendering techniques, at the expense of other things we could be devoting energy and effort to,” admitsEpic Mickey‘s creative director....
