Canabalt soundtrack available, pay what you want (sorta)

If you don’t already know whatCanabaltis, just gohere. If you do know, then hey — you might be pleased to know thatthe soundtrackis now available for download. Each track costs a minimum of one dollar (but you can pay more if you want), while the entire five-song album costs three dollars (but, again, you can pay more if you really want to). Come to think of it, it’s not really a “pay what you want” sort of a thing so much as it’s just a relatively cheap soundtrack....

Captain Obvious: Gamers do less homework

So it turns out that gamers do less homework than non-gamers? No sh*t, Sherlock. We needed a study to tell us this? The Universities of Michigan and Texas-Austin studied 1,500 children ages 10-19 to find these unimaginable results. It turns out that young gamers spend 30 percent less time reading (books?) and 34 percent less time doing homework than the non-gaming students. I wonder what they’re doing instead of their homework....

Cargo: The Quest for Gravity released, looks INSANE

I will admit right now that, even while I’m downloadingCargo: The Quest for Gravityon Steam, I have no idea what it’s about. I found out about the game on RPS’recently publishedimpressions piece, but I don’t want to read it yet because this seems like the kind of game I want to be surprised by. So far, I know it has small, midget-like people with weird, old-person faces. Frankly, that’s enough to convince me that we’re looking at something special....

Catherine box art is dirty, dirty, dirty

You have to hand it to Atlus, they know how to get our attention. The publisher revealed box art for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions ofCatherine, each one providing a different piece of artwork, but both of them guaranteed to catch the eye. The mixture of high quality sauce and scorching colors should definitely make the game pop out on store shelves, provided any store manager is brave enough to put them out there....

Cry havoc and let slip the golf of war

Now admittedly, this particular storyis a couple of days old, so if you must beat me in the face for it, enjoy yourselves. It was, however, far too ridiculous a concept to just not be written about. Marcus Fenix, the grizzled veteran ofGears of War, riding around in a caddy across green open fields while wearing ludicrous checked pants and a flat cap, all before chainsawing Tiger Woods right in his face....

Dante’s Inferno will have music, BioShock dude making it

Dante’s Inferno has music. Who knew? I, for one, was entirelytoo busy ripping the heads off of organic boats, riding monsters, and killing evil babiesto pay attention to the original score. But the game does have a famous — or at least notable — videogame composer doing the music. It’s Garry Shyman, the dude who composed the original score of the eerie shooter,BioShock. In the official release, Shyman said thatDante’swas one of the most “challenging projects” he’s ever done....

Dead soldier’s dad promises they’ll play Call of Duty again

A touchinggame-related tributehas surfaced in the press recently. British Private Richard Hunt died last week after falling victim to an explosive while patrolling Afghanistan. At the grave site of Hunt, a copy ofCall of Duty: World at Warnow rests, lain there by his father. A handwritten note was attached to the game, reading: “Happy Birthday ‘Hunty’. Play you again one day. Dad.” For some reason, this story really gets to me....

If you’re one of those people who can’t seem to get enough of Electronic Arts’ sci-fi horror gameDead Space, then you might want to know that “Upgrade Packs” have just been announced as DLC. These new premium packs will give main character Isaac Clarke new suits and weapon skins to help him carve the Necromorphs into blood-soaked cheese strings, as well as carve a hole in your wallet.
