New Tales of Monkey island art and screens emerge

The people at LucasArts and Telltale probably think I’m a retard. On my way to theStar Wars: The Old Republicdemonstration at E3 2009, I stumbled and then stood with my mouth agape in front of two kiosks in the corner of the conference room hallway. The presenters of those two kiosks were showingSecret of Monkey Island: Special EditionandTales of Monkey Island. E3 is a bubble — we only see and experience the news, but we don’t necessarily hear it....

Nintendo ordered to pay $21 million for patent infringement

And it’s not what you’re thinking, either. No one has a beef (yet) with the Wii’s wand-waggling technology; Nintendo paid out for infringement on the design of the GameCube controllers. Anascape, an East Texas gaming company, is now $21 million dollars richer after Nintendo shelled out the cash. A jury found that Nintendo infringed on Anascape’s patent while designing its Wii Classic Controller, WaveBird and GameCube controllers. The lawsuit was originally filed back in 2006....

No fair: Europe gets the Gran Turismo PSP hookup

We already know that Europe is gettingGran Turismo PSPfreewith their PSPgo. We’ll give that to them, as they always get the shaft. But after seeing the other goodies they’re getting, including a Collector’s Edition release of the game, and another slick bundle, we’re beginning to think that Sony thinks we dislikeGran Turismo. Remember whenwe told you aboutour Limited Edition Gran Turismo PSP Entertainment Pack, set to release on October 20th? It’s just a good ol’ Silver PSP-3000, the game, and a couple of vouchers....

Not a typo: Nintendo reveals new DSi XL color

After struggling with initial 3DS sales, Nintendo must think it’s golden on that front after the price drop. The company announced last night that sales of handheld were up 260% following the price reduction to $169.99. So with that handled, obviously it’s time to move on to bigger and better things… like a new color of an older iteration of its portable. NY Comic Con video recap: God-Damn-It-Lou-Ferrigno Edition

Lou Ferrigno is cool as hell. The dude getslicked by cheetason the regular. As for me, I’m probably about as cool as the guy in the wife beater seen hanging out behind Lou inthis clip fromPumping Iron. They didn’t hire me to work at Destructoid because I’m cool, they hired me because… Lou Ferrigno was unavailable? Really, that’s my only guess.Lou Ferrigno was just one of the amazing sites at this year’s New York Comic Con....

Oh wow, a single piece of Enslaved concept art

This will go quite nicely with thatsingleAlan Wakescreenshotwe posted this morning! Enslavedis a game I am very excited about. While Ninja Theory’s previous effort,Heavenly Sword, disappointed me greatly in the gameplay department, its animation, story and bizarre set of eccentric characters really stood out to me, and I have been looking forward to the studio having another crack of the whip. If you did not know,Enslavedis a modern day take on the famous Chinese story Journey to the West....

Out of This World designer talks new game, inspiration

An interview with Jordan Mechner (Prince of Persia) and Eric Chahi (Out of This WorldakaAnother World) about inspiration in game design is bound to be phenomenal, but when you slip in an excellent piece of news right inside the article, you’ve got yourself a home run. First, the news bit: Chahi is working on a new game! After explaining his break from the industry post-Heart of Darkness, he revealed — much to the delight of a good number of us — that he has “been working with a team on a new game for a year and a half now....

Pac-Man World Championship: the quotes

There were aton of peopleto talk to at the event, all with something to say. I managed to get a little bit of talking time with most of the people there, but not enough for full-length interviews, I’d say. The only thing that could have been a full length interview would have been me talking with Iwatani-san, but even Major Nelson couldn’t get an interview with him. So, let’s continue onwards....

PAX 10: Hands-off with the delightfully gruesome Swarm

Going into PAX Prime, I had only a vague idea of what Hothead Games’Swarmwas all about. Cute blue guys, something about hilarious deaths, and the mention ofPikmin. Alright, got it! That’s more than enough to grab my attention. Hothead’s director of game technology Joel DeYoung and Ignition’s business development director Shane Bettenhausen gave us the rundown of this digital distribution title which draws inspiration from a few familiar concepts but executes them in an entirely different way than you’d expect....
