Yesterday, at the Gamefest 2008 event,Microsoft announcedthat paying for Gold accounts would no longer be necessary to access all the multiplayer features in PC games under theirGames for Windowsbrand. These features included such things as voice chat, usage fo the TrueSkill matchmaking system, the ability to play against 360 owners, and access to multiplayer achievements. Maybe not the most exciting list of features — voice chat, for instance, can be easily accessed through other programs on the PC — but I’ll happily take them....

French developer Hydravision will be releasing its latest title,Funky Lab Rat, for PlayStation Network on November 24 in Europe and November 30 in North America. The downloadable title will have players manipulating time and gravity as they help a test rat — a funky one, with super powers! — escape a laboratory. The game will feature 81 puzzle-like challenges across ten worlds, and will support both DualShock 3 and PlayStation Move support....

Yet another in-game musician has been revealed forGuitar Hero 5, this time the unlikely and random choice of Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. Nothing against Bellamy; I love Muse and the band’s music, and I think it’s a perfect fit for these band games. (I simply love playing the bassline of “Hysteria” inRock Band.) But when you compare him to the other “legends” who will appear in the game — guitarist Santana and the yet-announced, but more or less confirmed Kurt Cobain (among others) — he’s not quite up there....
