Making music and noise with Wii Guitar Hero World Tour’s Mii Freestyle mode

A few months back when Neversoft’s Brian Bright maintained that that Wii version of the upcomingGuitar Hero World Tourwould be identical to its counterparts, I was skeptical.“I’ll believe it when I see it,” I thought at the time. Last week, not only did I see it, but I played it. And it was still hard for me to believe. It’s almost a given that the Wii game would look inferior to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions ofWorld Tour, and that I can confirm....

Medal of Honor: Modern Combat seems inevitable

World War II? That’sso1944! A few weeks agowe talked to you aboutMedal of Honor: Modern Combat, a name that had been trademarked by Electronic Arts and seemed to indicate that the series would be going theCall of Duty: Modern Warfareroute and shunning the overdone WWII theme. Now the rumor has been given a fresh coat of paint, with one industry source claiming this is definitely a thing that’s happening. “It’s a new take on the modern warfare idea,” the insider tellsMCV....

Mega Man games on sale on PSN because Capcom hates him

Ha! You’d know that isn’t true if you read the article directly below this one. No,Capcomhas putMega Man 1, 2, 3, 9and10on sale on the PlayStation Network because they love you. Maybe it’s because they know you’re kind of temperamental lately and wanted to do something nice to calm you down. Or…maybe they wanted to rub a certain cancellation in your face! All the above listed games are half off on Sony’s PlayStation Network....

Microsoft turns Games for Windows Live into a free for all

Yesterday, at the Gamefest 2008 event,Microsoft announcedthat paying for Gold accounts would no longer be necessary to access all the multiplayer features in PC games under theirGames for Windowsbrand. Viva la multijugador libre! These features included such things as voice chat, usage fo the TrueSkill matchmaking system, the ability to play against 360 owners, and access to multiplayer achievements. Maybe not the most exciting list of features — voice chat, for instance, can be easily accessed through other programs on the PC — but I’ll happily take them....

Modded PC case looks right at home in Rapture

The setting of the first twoBioShockgames was arguably the best part; the sleek art deco and art nouveau styles were something gamers hadn’t really seen before, especially not in this console generation that seems fixated on dull, brown industrial settings. Now Hungarian case modder Gregory Mórocz has taken Rapture’s sense of style and designed himself a rather lovely case mod for his PC (viaSuper Punch). Rather than making a Big Daddy-shaped case or something silly, Gregory has made a tasteful case that looks like you would find it in Andrew Ryan’s office....

Monday Mind Teasers 10/13/08

You know how it works! With the help of each other, try to figure out all of the disguised game covers. They all share a common theme that, once solved, can help you figure out the harder ones. Last weekI stumped everyone again! For thesecond weekin a row! This week’s theme is pretty cut and dry, but a lot of the games aren’t that well known, so it might be a little challenging for you guys....

MSNBC tries to run down the top five video game songs

You know, I always cringe a little when the mainstream press covers the video game industry in any way, but MSNBC did a pretty good job with a no-brainner top five list of themost memorable game tunes. There’s still a little bit of “cringe action” worked in — never mind that this is something you’d expect to see on one of those silly video game blogs. In honor of thosesilly blogs, I’ll respond in silly blogger style....

Muse’s Matt Bellamy gets plugged into Guitar Hero 5

Yet another in-game musician has been revealed forGuitar Hero 5, this time the unlikely and random choice of Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. Nothing against Bellamy; I love Muse and the band’s music, and I think it’s a perfect fit for these band games. (I simply love playing the bassline of “Hysteria” inRock Band.) But when you compare him to the other “legends” who will appear in the game — guitarist Santana and the yet-announced, but more or less confirmed Kurt Cobain (among others) — he’s not quite up there....

Myst book becoming a movie? Looks like it

Seems like there’s been thisMystresurgence lately (or at least, someone’s trying to start one). I’ll admit I bought the wretchedDS versioneven though I should have known better, and I bought the game again when it came out for theiPhone. I know I’m being suckered on some level, butMystwas a big deal for me way back when. I’m not so sure I think a movie is a good idea, though. However, an indie film group by the name of Mysteria Film Group does think so, and they’ve announced that they have recently acquited the rights to turn the novelMyst: The Book of Ti’anainto a film....

Namco Bandai asking what PSOne games you want on PSN

Now everyone starts asking! I’ve been fuming for…well, since the PlayStation 3 has been released. What is the f*cking holdup with the PSOne titles on the PlayStation Network? Japan’s PSN has a massive library. Ours is getting better, but it’s still pretty sad. Do you know much more valuable the PSP would be to people if they had the full PSOne library to pick from? It hurts my head thinking about how long this has taken....

Naughty Bear’s box art is pretty much amazing

The cover art forNaughty Bearis what happens whenAmerican PsychoandChild’s Playhave a baby. It’s not exactly a sight for sore eyes, but it doesn’t have to be, either. In fact, the only way it could be any better is if they went one-hundred percent in the other direction: rainbows, frolicking bears, flowers, etc. Since this happens to be a game about a stuffed bear going on a murderous rampage, mission accomplished on the art, I’d say....
