10 million Xbox 360s sold in the U.S., Microsoft declares victory

Microsoft has announced today that sales of the Xbox 360 have exceeded the 10 million unit mark in the U.S., with over 19 million sold globally. Microsoft are also very excited about the Xbox 360 being the first current-generation console in the U.S. to break the 10 million unit mark. “History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle,” said Microsoft’s Don Mattrick....

The Independent Games Festival isgrowing ever stronger, with this year’s festival bringing in 391 Main Competition entries. I like to think we do a decent job of covering the incredible work these smaller developers put out, and then I see a list like this and sort of freak out. The judges are going to have a heck of a time this year, that’s for sure. For the time being, I’d recommend yougive the gamesa quick glance, and seek out the ones that speak to you....

A look at gaming’s many revolutions

Patriotismmay not be my favorite thing ever, but I do love a good revolution. That’s a big part of why I love the videogame industry. In television, movies and music, truly revolutionary moments are few and far between. In videogames, they hit every couple of years, if not sooner. No artistic medium that I know of has evolved this far, this quickly. Knowing that videogames are in a perpetual growth spurt makes scouring for gaming news every morning a daily exercise in excitement....

A recap of June’s Monthly Musings

Last month, there were a ton of blogs written for June’s Monthly Musings, “The start of the affair”. Twenty-seven “The start of the affair” blogs were promoted in all to the front page, setting a new record for how many blogs were promoted to the front of Destructoid. Reverend Anthony has laid down July’s Monthly Musing theme and I expect even more blogs to be written for the new theme, “A cast of thousands…of polygons“....

A recap of November’s A Time to Build Monthly Musings

I just realized I forgot to do a recap ofNovember’s A Time to BuildMonthly Musings so HERE YOU GO: There weren’t too many blogs promoted last month, but what was promoted was great. There were a great variety of subjects covered. The one blog that really stood out to me from last months promoted stories belonged to Snake726. It fit the A Time to Build theme very well as it was about a game he actually helped build for a class project....

An explanation of how Pac-Man’s ghosts work

Most boring headline ever, right? Maybe a bit out of date too? I mean, Pac-Man is a bit old by now so why talked about how the ghosts in the game work? Mostly because it’s an amazing reminder of how simple programming often works better than complex rules, and a great example of how little details are so insanely important to how we interact with games. You can read the excerpt fromGame Internalswrite up below....

Behind the scenes of Deadly Creatures with Billy Bob Thornton

I’ve never been a huge fan of Billy Bob Thornton, certainly not as much as Dennis Hopper, but he’s a competent actor. And he managed to bed Angelina Jolie, which would award just about anybody the status associated with being a folk hero. Hell, that alone should mean he can be in any videogame he damn well chooses, as far as I’m concerned.Lo and behold, here he is talking a (very) little bit aboutDeadly Creatures, a THQ title for the Wii that releases next month....
