Activision finds UK’s biggest Transformers fan

To celebrate the launch ofTransformers: War for Cybertronin Britain, evil publisher Activision launched a contest to find the country’s biggestTransformersfan. You could argue that this is only tenuously linked to videogames, and by posting this I might as well do reviews ofToy Story 3and post about Gundam, but I have a counterpoint… Just look at that header image and tell me it’s not the most amazing picture ever? That’s a real boy!...

Art Attack Friday: agentscarlet

Art Attack Friday is your weekly look at videogame fan art created by a talented artist. Today’s Art Attack Friday is on agentscarlet and it is long overdue. Last year, the abovezombie Peachandzombie Samuspictures were making the Internet rounds. For good reason too, as no one has really done zombified videogame icons this well before. In fact, no one has really touched it since agentscarlet did the originals. At least, not to this level of awesome anyway....

Art Attack Friday: CiztizenWolfie

With razor-sharp line work rendered boldly and un-apologetically,CitizenWolfie(aka Dennis Davies) taps into a hybrid style that’s forcefully pleasing. Teetering between the edge of character art and comic book illustration, he extracts the hardest edges out of some of our beloved gaming bad-asses and manifests them to his own accord. Kratos’ stance is strikingly fierce through jarring contrast in Ghost of Sparta while his rendition of King Thwomp intimidates a meager and rather doughy Mario....

A Japanese, Atlus-published game that was out in Japan that day (or rather, on June 24th, which would be June 23rd in America) and just happened to be the first installment of the sequel toPersona: Revelations,Persona 2:Innocent Sin. It also just so happens that aPlayStation Portable remake ofPersona 2: Innocent Sinrecently hit the shelves in Glorious Nippon. Related? Probably. And quite welcome, as I will be playingInnocent Sinfor the first time should it hit stateside....

Bioware prez says Wii is like a toy, says it is not ‘gaming’

The grumbling about the Wii never seems to let up, or so it seems these days. This time it’s from Greg Zeschuk, president of BioWare (and obviously a guy who enjoys high end graphics, if the games his company puts out are anything to judge him by). Here’s what Greg had to say about Nintendo’s little white cash cow in a recentGameDaily interview: “Experiences [on the Wii] are much more like a toy experience ....

Cave Story DS demo hits; the shadows are NOT people!

Apparently I’m the only person on the planet who has never playedCave Story. In fact, up until a month ago I thought it was based on Plato’sAllegory of the Cave, but apparently that was lending the title too much credit. Instead of illustrating the innate downfalls inherent in man’s perception-is-reality mindset,Cave Storyis a story about a cave. Specifically, the story of some dude who awakens within a cave, meets some rabbits, fights some monsters and never comes to the realization he’s stuck within a prototypical Japanese RPG....

Check out the cosplayers of Gen Con

The software side ofGen Con 2009is lacking this year. It’s depressing to see so few videogames lining the West side of the convention floor. With crushed spirits early in the morning, I turned my attention to the costumed peoples roaming the Indianapolis Convention Center for a temporary but cheerful lift. The gallery below is an excellent representation of what I’m seeing at the event. There are a few costumed and scantily clad booth babes, more than a few pirate wenches, an angry Twi’lek, togas, Solid Snake, and much more....

Child of Eden and Shadows of the Damned need more sales

According to numbers procured by ourfriends at Joystiq, it looks like psychedelic onrails rhythm-action shooterChild of Eden(coming soon to the PS3) only sold 34,000 units in its first month of release in the United States. Considering the game has been hyped for two E3’s in a row as one of Kinect’s few killer apps, I think it’s safe to say that those numbers are disappointing. Worse still are the reported sales of my favorite game of June 2011, and one of my favorite games of the year, the hilarious and horrificShadows of the Damned....
