Check out these 8-bit game sprite pixel stockings

What the hell are Christmas stockings anyway? Why do we put stuff in them? Are they supposed to be Santa Claus’ socks? Why would we want to do that, and what relevance do they have to videogames anyway? A big-assed red sock on the wall has never made sense to me, but these 8-bit game sprite stockings are something I can get behind. Reader bookwo3107 (Greg) sent us images of his Christmas stockings done right....

Chuck Norris: Bring on the Pain screens have facts

Well, it’s about two years too late to really be timely with the whole Chuck Norris meme, butChuck Norris: Bring on the Painfor the iPhone is finally about to get a release. The game, which for some reason we failed to tell you about when it was first announced, is a sidescrolling brawler in which you play as none other than Chuck Norris. In the game Chuck Norris is sent to the jungles of Cambodia to save a group of prisoners from communists....

Could The Red Star be coming to XBLA and PSN?

Fans of obscure scrollerThe Red Starmight be very interested to learn that the OFLC has recentlyre-ratedthe game for a multiplatform release. Our tipster checked to make sure this wasn’t just an old rating for the PS2 and Xbox version, and was happy to find that the original rating is still listed, meaning this is entirely new. The OFLC hasn’t revealed very much outside that, so we don’t know exactly what this means....

Cowboys are back in space with Starhawk

If you grew up during the late eighties or early nineties, space cowboys were the coolest, most badass dudes ever. Cartoons likeBraveStarr,Saber RidersandCowboy Beboptook the previously overused elements of cowboys, horses and gangsters, and put them into space. It’s been a while since we last had any games or shows about gun-wielding space men, but they are back inStarhawk. We talked to Dylan Jobe from LightBox Interactive about dogfights in space!...

Dead Island trailer hits net, Sands Resort reservations plummet

At E3 2006, I played a game calledDead Islandon the PC, and it sure didn’t look like this. But that’s a good thing, because Techland looks like they’re headed in the right direction with this open world zombie survival first-person shooter. What’s that? You don’t think there’s enough gameplay shown here to make any judgments? Come on now — you should know that anything with the flesh eating dead is cool in my book....

Destructoid Exclusive: A Boy and His Blob part 3: Caves

In our first chapter in ourBoy and His Blobseries,Forest, you got your first look at what gameplay would really be like, got to witness the epic glory of the hug button, and heard the boy’s heartwarming voice for the first time. Yesterday, we shared theSwamp level, which apparently wasn’t as interesting as the fact that I had googly eyes for developer Sean Velasco. Destructoid review: Afro Samurai

TheAfro Samuraianime has its charms. The bent characters, copious amounts of stylized violence and decent narrative kept me moving from episode to episode. I usually don’t enjoy watching “cartoon” movies. I’m the kind of guy that likes his action or plot to be moved by real people, doing fake things in front of a green screen. When I heard that Namco Bandai’s new Surge label was developing anAfro Samuraivideogame, I got excited....

Destructoid review: Penny Arcade Episode 2

WhenPenny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode Onewas released, I eagerly gobbled it right up. It was brash, absurd and hilarious, exactly the sort of lampooning that I feel many RPGs which take themselves too seriously deserved. This week,Episode Twomade its way into our clammy, grubby hands and I was eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to return to the world of New Arcadia. Could it live up to the precedent set by the launch of the series?...

Destructoid review: Smash Court Tennis 3

Before my nastiest knee accident, I was a terror on clay. Opponents would quiver as my mighty backhand delivered crushing blows that needled the line and ran them to exhaustion. My serve wasn’t too bad either. A few years ago when Pete Sampras and I were just kidding around at my private court, I served up a nasty 122 MPH ball that caught on fire and put a small crater on the opposite side of the net....
