‘Broken Steel’ looks as good as ever in these new screens

As if the wait for May 5 isn’t hard enough for usFallout 3fans who have decided to stop playing until the downloadable content releases, Bethesda has shot over some new images of “Broken Steel” that are looking damned good from where I’m sitting. The brand new Adams Air Force Base area is shown in full effect, as is the badass-looking Tesla Cannon, the Feral Ghoul Reaver, and everyone’s favorite communist-fighting robot, Liberty Prime....

1 million served: Gran Turismo 5 time trial demo

We didn’t hear this, but we believe Kotaku on this. Sony says that theGran Turismo 5demo…thingy has been downloaded over 1 million times since its release last month. That’s a lot of people racing the same one car around the same one track. And everyone was good with that? I would love to see the stats onhow longthat one demo was played. Of course, the people trying to win the prize for having the top time in this time trial are going to retry....

A look at the cars and tracks of Blur

I digBlurin a big way. It scratches the progressive multiplayer itch in a format which isn’t a shooter, which would probably be enough if it were not also an excellent arcade racer. I’m going to resist the urge to buy it for all of three days before I break down and run to the store. The above video has some of the design team talking about the assorted cars and locations in the game....

A new Final Fantasy XIII trailer hitting Home real soon

I didn’t see much going on in PlayStation Home when I last visited, but things do happen in Sony’s digital dance party simulator. Case in point:this argument I witnessedlast week. Uninteresting at a glance, but when you analyze the material, you see a group of teenagers acting as wise and crafty heroes, rejecting the hubris of another individual. Just kidding. But things do happen in Home, or at least will in this case....

Activision using ‘new studios’ to ‘reinvent’ Guitar Hero

Considering the franchise’s sliding sales, it wasn’t shocking to learn that Activision had disbanded itsGuitar Herobusiness unit and decided to not release a new title this year. The fate of the series hung in the balance, and the publisher was quiet on any solid plans going forward. But thanks to Activision Blizzard CEO (andmovie star) Bobby Kotick, we can rest easy knowing that a newGuitar Herois on its way. It just might not look or feel like theGuitar Herowe’ve come to know....

Addictive one-button platformer of the week: Canabalt

I’m not entirely sure why, but I’ve been replayingCanabalt, a free, browser-based platformer, at least once every two days since it came out. Perhaps I long to luxuriate in the luscious pixel art. Perhaps I’m desperate to beat my own high scores. Perhaps I’m just in love with the game’s pacing (an average playthrough will only last about ten seconds, leaving you ready to try over and over). The premise is pretty simple: run as far as you can across rooftops and through skyscrapers, using only the X key to jump....

Agetec’s wacky LOL to be available via online purchase only

Agetec today has announced that their odd little multiplayer title for the Nintendo DS,LOL, will be bucking convention and will be available for purchase online only. For those unfamiliar withLOL,it’s a game that doesn’t really ship with any games. Sounds weird? Well, it is. This multiplayer-only game has players making challanges in writing to one another, and everyone answers as they so desire — words, a picture, whatever. The host then reveals the answers, and everyone votes on a winner before moving to the next round....

Almost 2/3 of Americans play videogames

According to the NPD report called Expanding the Games Market, 63 percent of Americans play some type of videogame on some type of device. From the online survey of 5,000, it was discovered that males 18-34 are the hardcore gamers, and above and below those ages are filled out with casual gamers — more and more of which are women. Most of those surveyed said that their weekly playing habits are about the same as last year’s, though thirty percent say they play more this year....

AMAZING House of the Dead: Overkill promotional swag

I must admit that when a certain package arrived today, I was a little disappointed by the contents. “A VHS tape,” my inner voice complained. “Who is sending VHS tapes in this day and … wait a minute … this saysHouse of the Dead: Overkillon it. EPIC OVERLOAD!” Looks like Sega has taken the Grindhouse horror style and totally knocked it out of the park. It might not be apparent on these hasty pics, but the video cassette box has been deliberately weathered and damaged so it looks like it was dredged up from the “video nasty” era or something....

Angry Birds Rio downloaded 10 million times in 10 days

Roviotweeted“10 in 10:-)” yesterday, which was later confirmed to mean theysoldhad 10 million copies ofAngry Birds Riodownloaded in 10 days. Confirmed because someone tweeted at Rovio if this was what they meant, and thereplywas yes… The downloads (free and paid versions) appear to be across both iPhone and iPad platforms, and given that the iPad version is $2.99 and the fact that the game still sits at the #1 spot on both of Apple’s app stores, that results in a ton of money....
