Ever since it was announced that Steamworks would be coming to the PlayStation 3, Valve has certainly been backtracking on many of its past sentiments. The latest bit of praise for the system comes by way of Erik Johnson, who says that the open nature of the PS3 makes it better for developers and consumers alike.
“Part of the reason the PS3 project is so exciting to us is because fundamentally Sony views the PS3 as a very open platform for developers and that’s kind of what we feel like,” says Johnson. “It is better for developers but more importantly it’s better for customers to have as many choices of software to run on whatever device they have.
“Having Steam on that platform is incredibly valuable to us. In a lot of ways that is the way we define a customer having a good experience because it’s the way that we keep talking to that customer over time.”
Certainly a different flavor of comment than Valve used to give out concerning the PS3, but it’s good news for PS3 fans, and it’s good news for Valve in the long run. After all, if it meansPortal 2gets into a lot more hands, then everybody wins! Who knows, maybe evenLeft 4 Dead 3will end up on all platforms. What a brave new world that would be.
