I’m not the biggest fan of theCall of Dutyfranchise. It takes itself way too seriously. TheMetal Gearseries, however, covers similar thematic territory with tongue planted firmly in cheek. If onlyMetal Gear‘s self-aware bombast and tension-breaking humor could be incorporated into theModern Warfareworld.
EnterModern War Gear Solid, a crossover parody that finds Solid Snake teaming up with Infinity War’s Ghost to battle the evil Activistsun empire. It seems that Activistsun has just acquired Outer Heaven and will use the added resources to build the greatest weapon known to man, Modern Gear. The real-world Activision / Infinity Ward connections are blatantly obvious, but it’s that forwardness that gives the video it’s charm. I also love how Solid Snake has become a parody of himself — he can’t stop staring at Naomi’s boobies and mumbles barely audible nonsense not unlike Popeye.
