It sets up events for the state of societal unrest as depicted in the rioting displayed in some of the earliertrailers, and even hints at the Illuminati at the end. Or well, it hints at the freemasons and not the Bavarian secret society that made people equate freemasonry with the Illuminati for ages to come. Since this isDeus Exwe’re talking about, you can bet your ass that the Illuminati will make an appearance — with or without the rise of Majestic 12.
It’s a pretty awesome way to set the stage for the highly anticipated prequel in both feel and setting, even if the anti-augmentation movement seems to mirror the luddite stereotypes so often seen in science fiction movies.
