Episodic gaming has become a very popular way of digital games to extend their lifespans and rake in more cash over time. At least one developer, however, is against such a practice, with Team Meat saying they’d rather kill themselves than do that withSuper Meat Boy.Â
“Dear Internets:Super Meat Boyon Wii will NOT be Episodic,” says the dev via itsTwitter. “That’s retarded and we won’t do it. I’d rather kill myself …Â Â It’s a way for companies to trick you into paying more for a game.Sonicf*cking 4.”
The outburst follows Team Meat asking whether they shouldbring out a retail versionofSuper Meat Boyon the Wii. Some fans seem to have suggested that it be cut up and released episodically, and as you’re able to see, they were not met with approval.Â
I’ve never personally had a major problem with episodic gaming as a concept, but I agree it’s a distribution method that can be easily abused. I think the trick is to just not be a dick about it.Â
