If you were entertaining hopes thatSplinter Cell: Convictionwould be heading to the PS3, you better kill your expectations now like a yapping, drowning puppy. Ubisofthas claimedthatConvictionis intended solely for the Xbox 360, and that a strong Microsoft partnership will see the game take full advantage of the machine.

“There’s going to be a really strong partnership with Microsoft,” said producerAlexandre Parizeau. “Obviously we’ll do everything that we can do to make sure that the experience is indebted with whatever the Xbox has to offer. I want to make sure that when the game hits the shelves the disc will ‘meld’ with your Xbox 360 — it’s meant for the Xbox 360 and it will show.”

Parizeau also explained whyConvictionis taking the lonely road of the third party exclusive: “It’s really cool to be able to focus technology on one platform, to be able to really exploit it to the maximum of its capacity. We’ve been working with Microsoft for a while now. We’ve been working with their engineers — we’ve had super good feedback from them on all sorts of different things. It’s been a really good partnership with them.

“They’re backing us up. There’s no question that they’re supporting the game to its fullest.”

Damn. That’s a shame for PS3 owners, sinceConvictionis looking really quite amazing. I’ve never really cared for Splinter Cell games until this one came along, but hey, at least I’ve got an Xbox 360. Sadly, those who just have a PS3 are fresh out of luck.
