To have your job hanging by a thread, especially in these worrying financial times, is not a good thing, but 8,000 Sony workers are about to feel the pinch as the PlayStation 3 manufacturer looks tocut its staffdown to size.
As Sony allegedly continues to lose money on the PlayStation 3, one analyst has suggested that a staff cut of this size won’t help the company out very much: “This staff reduction won’t be enough. Sony doesn’t have any core businesses that generate stable profits – the next thing we want to see is what is going to be the business that will drive the company.”
The staff cuts are expected to be implemented by 2010, which should be just in time for the release ofHome.
