Big changes came to SEGA this morning as the company moved forward with a restructuring plan. As of now SEGA’s San Francisco HQ has become the operating headquarters of SEGA’s digital division, a deliverer of everything digital for SEGA West. The European arm of SEGA, SEGA Europe, will now only focus on traditional, retail-based games. Before, both companies worked on digital and traditional games.

As a result, employees became redundancies. The San Francisco branch saw 36 of its employees cut while SEGA Europe saw 37. In an interview withIndustry Gamersabout the restructuring, Sega West president Mike Hayes said it was a “reluctant decision to reduce the headcount” of both branches. He noted later that the restructuring “allows (SEGA) to be much more efficient in terms of (its) costs, but probably more importantly in the way that (SEGA) can look at the future business.”
