With two versions ofSonic Colors,Sonic the Hedgehog 4andSonic Free Ridersall slated to release before the year is out, Sega is concerned that it has too many Sonic games on store shelves and has de-listed a number of games that received tepid review scores.
“We could make a lot of money on back-catalogueSonictitles, but let’s keep the number of Sonic games available under control,” says Sega EMEA SVP Jurgen Post. “Otherwise you can have cannibalisation. If there are ten Sonic games on the shelves, with people seeingSonic Rush DSorSonic Rush Adventure, this may not help our overall strategy.”
Haha, man. You know Sonic’s become a whore when Sega is having to essentially set up a blockade for its own games in case consumers get confused and buy the wrong thing. What a sad indictment on the state of the franchise.
Still, the new games (at leastColorsandSonic 4) look ace potatoes, so that’s something.
