SEGA has officially filed for trademark of the name Dreamcast once again, sending salivary glands and reproductive organs into a frenzy across the internet.

Although the original filing for the Dreamcast isstill active, this latest one, (dated August 13 of this year), makes mention of “home video game machines; floor pads or mats” and “flash memory cards.” It’s no secret around these parts that I love my Dreamcast like a dog with a bone, and there’s never been any floor mat accessory or actual flash memory card in its library of accessories.

So what does it all mean? It could be anything from SEGA simply protecting its trademark, to Dreamcast games on XBLA, all the way to a surprise re-entry into the console market. There’s no real way to know for sure, but I for one am crossing my fingers, toes, and anything else I have two of that can be crossed without resulting in excruciating pain that it’s the latter option.

you may take a look at theofficial application documentin the gallery below and draw your own conclusions. Considering that the original trademark is still valid, why would SEGA bother doing this at all? Was their acquisition ofGameWorksa way to build revenue so they could fund something like this? Only time will tell whether we’re foolishly getting our hopes up or there’s something brewing here. What’s your theory, Dtoiders? Hit the comments and speculate away.
