[UPDATE]Readers NintenDaan and GohanGVO have deftly pointed out that this is not just a rumor, that this info comes straight from Nintendo’s super-secret press-only website. I failed to use my maximum journalism powers on this one. Sorry folks!

[Original story]I’m pretty sure that me and Ashley Davis are the only two people on staff here that consider ourselves active fans ofAnimal Crossing. I know Jim played the game in the past, and I think Hamza did some experimenting, but from what I’ve gathered, me and Ashley are the only two who are really into the series.

That makes me wonder if I’m the only person on staff, and perhaps, the only personin the worldwho’s a little freaked out by the latest news aboutAnimal Crossingon the 3DS. A random PDF file picked up by Gonintendo reader reveals that in the new newest version of the game, youare the mayor, andyouare responsible for the making the town “a better place”.

I figure that the few of you with any interest inAnimal Crossingat all are probably excited to here that this new entry in the series will change things up a bit. Personally, I’m not so optimistic.Animal Crossing: City Folktaught me that all I need to enjoy a newAnimal Crossinggame is new things to talk about, new fish and bugs to catch, more stuff to buy, and some new holidays. If they change the series too much (and by “too much” I mean “at all”) then it might not feel likeAnimal Crossinganymore.

To me, theAnimal Crossingexperience is like taking a vacation that never has to end. Can I still get that feeling out of a game that not only gives me a job, but makes me responsible for the happiness of an entire town?
