Are you tired of playingSuper Monkey Ballby tilting your iPhone, or stabbing at your DS’ touch screen inThe Legend of Zelda:Twilight PrincessPhantom Hourglass? Perhaps you’re itching for some on-the-go soccer action. If so,Real Soccer 2009may just be your cup of tea. Designed specifically for the DS, the title offers touch screen controls and boasts 198 teams with real players, along with full 3D graphics. I should probably note that EA is developingFIFA 09for the DS, so you might want to check that out as well.

That all sounds pretty bad-ass, but areview of last year’sReal Soccer 2008noted that the titled appeared as if it had “originated as a cellphone experience.” Here’s hoping that the developer, Gameloft, learned their lesson and is actually building the game from the ground up for the DS this time around. Still, I can’t help but mention something that stuck out to me when I saw this in my inbox.

When the gang at Gameloft was brainstorming names for their mobile gaming soccer franchise back in 2006, was “Real Soccer” the best title they could come up with? I mean, really? This might have been acceptable back in the days ofTennison the NES, but as far as I’m concerned, unless you’re actively trying to be retro — which I’m assuming Gameloft wasn’t, since all the games in the series have been in 3D — that stuff doesn’t fly nowadays.

Real Soccer 2009will be available for the DS this November for $29.99. Go toGameloft’s Web sitefor more, and hit up the gallery below for four screens.
