Behold, a new MechWarrior game appears

Seven years. That’s how long it’s taken for someone to pick up theMechWarriorfranchise and start working again. That “someone” is developers Piranha Games, along with Smith and Tinker, who have revealed they’re working on a franchise re-boot. A re-boot of the franchise means this won’t beMechWarrior 5, instead they’re opting to go the more creative route — it’ll simply be called MechWarrior. The title is in development for the Xbox 360 and PC, and with no publisher stepping up to claim the title yet, there isn’t a release date set in stone....

Binary Domain screens bring the grey, grey, grey

Binary Domainmay be the most grey game I have ever seen. There’s some interesting design at play, especially with the game’s various robots, but the actual scenery is as drab as they come. It’s not even a pleasant grey (such shades exist), but a washed-out and dreary one. This is one of several issuesBinary Domainreally needs to fix before it launches. This game holds a lot of promise, butas I noted in my E3 preview, it also runs a considerable risk of becoming anotherMindjack....

Both Final Fantasy XIV soundtracks look strange

I wanted to point fellow game music fans to the unboxing of both of Square Enix’s new soundtrack releases.Final Fantasy XIVhas two soundtrack releases:Battle TracksandField Tracks. They’re divided just as you’d imagine from their names. These aren’t your typical releases, though: they come in oddly shaped packets that remind me of the pockets that McDonald’s puts your Apple Pie into. Delicious. These pockets are stored in transparent plastic. They’ll stand out on your shelf, to say the least....

Cable is coming to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Rest easy, nerds — Cable is joining the ranks ofMarvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Not Fusion. Earlier this morning, publisher Activision unleashed the above video and accompanying images showing off the yellow-eyed and downloadable X-Man. He looks to be the traditional kind of brutish character with a gun. He can pound the ground and emit devastating shockwaves as well as shoot dudes in a circle while hovering.Take note of Cable’s traditional appearance....

According to the game’s producer, Jason Bergman, it’s not happening. Ever. Never ever, in fact. ClaDun x2 ready for a PSN release later this month

NIS America is bringingClaDun x2to PlayStation Portable on August 30. The dungeon-based action-RPG sequel will be understandably skipping UMD in favor of a release on PlayStation Network. Again, you’ll be able to customize major elements like the appearance of your character and weapons — always fun if you have the artistic skill (or at least enough skill to Google better designs).ClaDun x2seems to be going for more of the same vibe overall, which is what you would expect for a game with a devoted, if smaller-scale, following....

Destructoid Discusses! Should we collect videogames?

We’re back this week with anotherDestructoid Discusses!, our featured discussion among the Destructoid editors and staff. This week, Dyson handed the reigns to me, so I decided to poll the staff on a topic that has recently been a point of contention among friends. Back in the 16 and early 32-bit days, getting hold of a rare, mint condition game was like another trophy for your collection. Geek cred, right? But now, these days, it seems that every good game is released as either some kind of download or on a compilation disc....

Destructoid review: Colosseum

[Editors’s note— I have new recording equipment so all video reviewsaftertoday will sound much sexier. Keep helping us to improve our videos byproviding feedbackthough!]Most XNA developers have thus far shied away from doing anything too involved with their games, developing disposable puzzle titles or quick shooters in lieu of something that better emulates retail games. EnterColosseum, a combat-heavy 3D action game with a full customization system. It’s easily one of the most ambitious titles to appear on the Community Games channel, and looks as professional as they come, but with its twin-stick approach to fighting and slow pace, doesColosseumhave what it takes to bring thrilling gladiatorial scraps to your Xbox 360?...
