Dev: Big iOS publishers ‘buy their way to the top’

An independent developer has accused big companies of abusing iTunes, pushing small studios out of the market by buying their way to the top of the charts. The allegations are leveled by Future Games, responsible for the mobile game Hungry Shark. “Any developer who hasn’t already had a hit on the app store faces that challenge, ‘can I get anybody to play it in the first place?’,” said MD Ian Harper....

Discountoid: F.E.A.R. 2, Overlord, Spongebob and more

It’s Sunday morning at Dtoid HQ and we’re all a little worse for wear. Just because I’m bleary-eyed does not mean I can’t still sniff out a bargain, though. So what are the deals this week? Gamestop seems to be pushingSpongebobandResident Evil, which is a pretty strange combination for an ad circular. If you’re willing to trade in a couple of games from their list, however, you’re able to score $40 off of a purchase ofResident Evil 5....

E3: Sony’s PlayStation 3D TV has some voodoo magic inside

Sony showed off a new 3D television at their E3 press conference. I didn’t think much of it at first showing, though I’ll admit I was a bit more interested when learned of its price point, features and included items. The 24″ inch set is PlayStation branded, and it includes a pair of PS3 glasses and a copy ofResistance 3. The feature that really ended up wowing me was actually the switchable 3D view that lets players see different screens with a push of a button....

EA will host a panel discussing homophobia in game culture

Say what you will about videogame culture, but no one can deny that it can be a difficult space for a gay gamer to be in — especially with the word “faggot” tossed around so easily online. It seems as if EA aims to support a motion against this by hosting a panel being held by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) this Saturday. Shacknewsreports that reps from Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Linden Labs,GayGamer....
