3DS relying on ‘integrity’ of developers for good games

The DS is a wonderful little piece of kit but, like the Wii, it has seen its fair share of crap over the years as unscrupulous developers attempt to cash-in on its success. With the 3DS on the horizon and looking amazing, similar fears of rushed ports and sloppy cash grabs have surfaced. Shigeru Miyamoto is aware of this and says Nintendo is relying on the integrity of developers. “I think we just have to rely on the integrity of the developers and the products that they’re making,” says Miyamoto, ever the idealist....

Activision delays upcoming James Bond game until 2010, do you care?

In an investors conference call this afternoon, Activision CFO Thomas Tippl revealed that games are going to have to sit tight for some more 007 action. Tippl says that an upcoming James Bond game has been delayed until 2010. Why? So it wouldn’t have to compete withCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, of course! Amazonhas finally gotten into the WiiWare-game today, addingWorld of Gooto its collection of purchasable digital software for consoles. Well, it’s not actuallyWorld of Goothat you’re buying. You’re buying a code that will allow you to download World of Goo, and yes, I’m just being nit-picky. The title is the first WiiWare game to appear on Amazon.com, joining a slew of already available Xbox LIVE Arcade titles. Apparently, people who also boughtWorld of GoopurchasedUNOfor XBLA....

Analysts show some Sony love

For over a year now, dumping on Sony’s PS3 was the cool thing to do. Some say that they shot themselves in the foot with a high launch price tag and a lack of strong launch titles, and somehow that negative energy escalated into a bashing trend that looked like it would never end. Since then, Sony has seen the light, and the recent price drop and increased number of titles has helped them gain some ground....

Anarchy Reigns’ story trailer has me excited

Sega has released a trailer for Platinum Games’ upcoming online beat ’em up,Anarchy Reigns, and no, it’s not anothercharacter reveal.Anarchy Reignstakes characters fromMadWorldand ditches the silly, over the top violence andSin City-esque art style for a truer beat ’em up experience and an ambitious story. It seems weird to have a compelling narrative in a beat ’em up, but as Platinum Games is no stranger to innovation and things out of theordinary, it’ll be interesting to see what they bring to the table....

Animal Crossing: City Folk: new info and images

I’m getting tired of saying “Nintendo Media Summit,” but that’s where all the news is coming from today. The day-wasting virtual life game with fur (Nintendo calls it “community simulation”) comes to us on November 16th. As you probably already know,Animal Crossing: City Folkis the first title to use Wii Speak, the set-top TV microphone/speaker. Up to four players in your own home can work together (well, alternating control) to paint the town red....

Aussie Steam version of Borderlands censored, 2K fixing

Even though the Australian Steam release version ofBorderlandsisn’t slated to hit until October 30th, Internet-wise Aussies have been getting their digital copies of the imaginative RPS early. Fine, but not fine. According toAusGamers, early owners are finding that the Australian digital release iskindacensored, which apparently wasn’t supposed to happen in the land of the Evil Ratings Board. Chock it up to an accident. In a statement we haven’t seen, 2K Games said that even though a file exists that should censor the game, it isn’t actually censoring it....

Batman: Arkham Asylum could’ve been a rhythm game

Batman: Arkham Asylumhas been praised for its combat system, among many other things. The countering that Batman is required to do when prompted by enemies is very similar to a rhythm game, and is a residual element of a full-on rhythm combat system that the team had planned. According toGame Informer, the first iteration ofArkhamwas “A full rhythm action game! The second one was prototyped in 2D, which popped up whenever you got into a fight, and involved colored circles bashing into each other....

Bethesda buys Fallout IP; Interplay retains rights to brain of Abby Normal

Gamasutra haswordthat Bethesda Softworks, the creators ofOblivion, and the upcomingFallout 3, have purchased theFalloutIP from Interplay for a sum of 5.75 million dollars. Previously, Bethesda had been licensing the IP from Interplay, but since Interplay has repeatedly screwed the pooch on attempts to recapitalize upon the IP, it’s probably for the best that it is taken off of their hands. Interplay will remain a licensee of the IP so that they can create aFalloutMMO, of which there has been absolutely no work completed so far....

Bethesda gives a status update on Fallout 3 DLC for PS3

While the first threeFallout 3add-ons for both Xbox 360 and PC were all sorts of messed up upon release, the latest pack, “Point Lookout,” seemed to launch without a hitch. Has Bethesda learned its lesson? I hope for the sake of PlayStation 3 owners the company has. “Operation: Anchorage,” which is going to be the first of theFallout 3downloadable content to make it to the PS3, is still being worked on according to Bethesda’s Pete Hines....

Bring the arcades of yesteryear into your living room!

What you see before you is one of the many classy, high-quality, epileptic-fit-inducing pieces offered byMaxwell Silverball, a division of M.T. Maxwell Furniture Company. What makes this piece of post-modernity any better than thatIkeacrap? Not much, except that it’s considerably more expensive, considerably more awesome, and made from retro pinball cabinets. Don’t give me that look — just because pinball machines predate the Atari 2600 and Jesus doesn’t make them any less awesome....
