RetRose Tinted: Road Rash 2

Last week, in the Destructoid office, people were up to their usual shenanigans. Nick Chester was talking about howRock Bandgives meaning to his otherwise empty life. Sterling was all, “blah blah,Dynasty Warriors,c*nts, blah.” Then the conversation suddenly took a turn. I don’t know how we got on to the subject, but Brad “The Guns” Nicholson said what I thought might be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard: “Road Rashsucks.”...

Rev Rant: the Wrex Paradox

Beard. This rant is a slightly tweaked version ofan editorial I wrotea year ago; in anticipation ofMass Effect 2and what it claims to accomplish with its “suicide mission” finale, I thought it was worth re-examining how the first game handled dramatic tension and character death. (Which is to say, not very effectively.) In the video I occasionally applaudDragon Age: OriginsassuperiortoMass Effectin terms of character death and plot branches. That said,Dragon Agestill has its own nearly identical Wrex Paradox moment (albeit with a different character)....

Review: Mafia II

It’s been nearly eight years since 2K Czech, then known as Digital Illusions, releasedMafia: The City of Lost Heavenfor PC. It was released at a time when Rockstar’sGrand Theft Auto IIIhad turned the industry on its head, and it was similar enough to garner the attention of gamers because of it. But it made a name for itself by carving its own niche — a more realistic portrayal of a criminal lifestyle, a more streamlined narrative experience....

Rock Band DLC: Do you really want to hurt me?

Next week’sRock Banddownloadable content is a smorgasbord of awesome, with music from the Culture Club, Faith No More, Phish, Stone Temple Pilots, and — gasp! — Loverboy! Glad to see more Faith No More popping up, but the fact that it’s not “Jizzlobber” is endlessly disappointing. Also, “Working for the Weekend” is a real gem from the 80s, as is that depressing Culture Club number. Basically, next week rules, doesn’t it?...

So, GameSpot has got itself a swankyinteractive mapof E3’s show floor. On this map, you can click on the various companies that’ll be in attendance, and a list of their “featured games” will pop up. See where this is going yet? According to the site, BioWare plans to showDragon Age IIandMass Effect 3at the show, and Tecmo Koei will be bringing alongDead or Alive 5. Until this stuff is confirmed, I’m sorta required to slap question marks and warning signs all over this, but really, what more proof do you need?...
