Robocalypse: Beaver Defense details, images, and video

Vogster Entertainment’sRobocalypse: Beaver Defenseis a quirky tower defense game set to launch on Wiiware at some point in Q3 2009. The game revolves around a mutated beaver’s vengeance quest. The goal is to stop the beaver’s army from wrecking your base by erecting static towers and deploying your own mini robotic army RTS-style. The robots, by the way, rock all sorts of zany weaponry. The fact sheet we received at E3 about the game specifically mentions “dual chain-guns” and “flame throwers” — the two best weapons in videogames not named “ostrich hammer....

SCEE PlayStation Day: first gameplay footage of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift

Earlier this week, webrought you newsfrom Sony Europe’s Gamers Day in London, along with a trailer forMirror’s Edge. Now, Sony has put out over three minutes of in-game video from Evolution Studios’ upcoming PS3-exclusive off-road racing sequel,MotorStorm: Pacific Rift(néeMotorStorm 2). According to the not-so-subtle text at the top of the video, the footage comes from a “pre-alpha” build of the game that is roughly 40% complete. The video features a voice-over by someone who is presumably one of the developers; to me, he sounds a lot like Christopher “Lots of planets have a north” Eccleston, only with more of an accent....

Screw Attack presents: Boba Fett Vs. Samus Aran

ScrewAttack has a new show over on Revision3, and so far, I’m into it. It’s calledDeath Battle. In the latest episode, we’re treated to some hypothetical combat between two of gaming’s most popular bounty hunters; Boba Fett and Samus Aran. There is a definite low-tech charm of the combat between Samus and Boba which I find endearing. I also like the balance betweenCelebrity Deathmatch-style silliness and legit geeking out in the color commentary....

ScrewAttack’s Worst Fighters Ever — where is Killer Instinct?

OhScrewAttack, how your Top 10s always take me down Memory Lane, oftentimes to places that I really had no intentions of ever seeing again. Their latest list, the Top 10 Worst Fighters Ever, is no different. There’s no shortage of really horrendous fighters out there, and individual results will vary.In fact, I was surprised that our very own*Bikini Karate Babes 2didn’t make the cut. Secondly, Killer Instinctshould have been included. I loathe it....

Second screenshot of Madden NFL 10 released

As I’ve mentioned before, this year, EA Sports has been much more willing to divulge details on the latest iteration of its veneratedMadden NFLfranchise, and at a much earlier point than ever before. Last Friday, Lead Designer discussed a major newMadden NFL 10feature on the Inside EA Sports blog, “Adaptive AI,” which aims to eliminate so-called “money plays” and other exploits. That same day, the development team flew out “eight of the most hardcore Madden fans” fromOperation Sports, a popular sports gaming community site, to EA Tiburon in Orlando for the earliestCommunity Daythat EA has ever held (for perspective, last year’s event was on May 30th)....

Shatter now up on Steam, you need to play it

Whoops! The PC release of Sidhe’sBreakout-style puzzlerShatterwas yesterday … and we totally missed it! Apparently, I should have had a V8. At the risk of getting a handful of “OLD!”s thrown my way, I figuredShattercould use the extra support, so that’s essentially what this post is. I missed outon the originalPlayStation Network release, but I did download the PC version ten minutes prior to writing this — the game rocks, in case you didn’t know....

Sleek puzzler Fractal coming soon to PC/Mac

From the fine makers ofAuditoriumcomes a stylin’ new puzzle game for Mac and PC. Quite appropriately, it’s been namedFractal. The basic mechanic that’ll have you daydreaming of flying shapes sounds pretty simple at first: you push around fractals and try to create blooms. In the beginning levels, you only have one color to deal with, which meansFractalis more or less you clicking maniacally until pretty colors fill up the screen. With multiple colors, winning becomes entirely based in strategic thinking....

Sonic the Hedgehog = the UK’s favorite videogame character

I’ve always believed that the hardcore Sega and Sonic faithful are nearly always British. It seems that Brit gamers have a stronger affiliation with the Mega Drive than anybody else, and also have a scary loyalty to Sonic the Hedgehog, despite the fact that for the past several years, his games have been uttergarbage. With that in mind, it’s somewhat unsurprising that the spiky blue one hastopped a listof the UK’s favorite videogame characters....

Sony on PS3: it’s still the first inning, and we’re not out yet

Ah, baseball analogies. They’re kind of lost on nerdy videogame types like myself, but Sony Computer Entertainment America’s CEO Jack Tretton does manage to throw out some good ones that explain Sony’s uphill struggle with the PS3. “The first year is important,” says Tretton, “but it’s the first inning of a nine-inning baseball game. You’re not going to win many baseball games if you panic when you’re down 1-0 in the first inning....
